I have a mask that is solar powered. But the arc is still too bright to see. Cant seem to set it so I can see in normal light, yet not be blind after an arc! Any advise other than buy a better one :-)
2nd is that my welder feed (Sip 150) is pulsing. Its not constant or steady. Where should I start in sorting that? I have a brace between the wire feed wheel mounts to stop them spreading. Adjusting spring pressure on them doesn't help. Been trying to sort it on the bench as I need to weld a cill in my escort and in a hurry too. Help?

Check the battery in the mask it might be dead !
Also the whole solar units fail as well sometimes , then its usually throwaway time unless a reasonable price

On the mask - have you used it ok before ?
Re the welder - Could be any number of things, but does the wire run smoothly when you pull the trigger with no arc?
Ha sit been sitting around a bit and is the wire corroded - if so and you have run a bit you may have gummed up the liner?
Have you changed to a different wire size and not changed the feed roller?
More details please! (also you might head over to mig-welding.co.uk for assistance)

To add to the above liner dirty, have you blown it out? Liner worn out. Tip wrong size. Tip worn/damaged. Bad earth (can be an issue).

Don't plug the welder in via an extension lead, or if you must, use one that is as short and heavy duty as possible. SIP 150 not noted for its welding ability either!

New brass earth clamp and wire brushed the work pieces shiny. New liner.(ebay generic) .6 tips and wire On the .6 runner on the feed rollers Damage to tip filed smooth as needed Inner part of gas shroud is a bit rough but shouldn't really effect the gas flow much. Wire tension checked. Roller can turn easily. I can easily pull wire through manually if I release the rollers. Wire feed pulses even without an arc! Still pulsing.
Would a video help??

are you welding in a dark place? some times as daft as it sounds you need to get a light into the area your welding then start welding.

are you welding in a dark place? some times as daft as it sounds you need to get a light into the area your welding then start welding. I have batteries ordered for the helmet and haven't checked anything else on it. Its the other way around light wise. It darkens early so I cant see what I'm about and when the arc strikes it isn't dark enough anymore.

usually the initial not welding stage of a mask is not variable, so id suggest at that stage either your mask is dirty, or you don't have enough light where you are welding. When you are welding some masks have shade adjustment, then either your mask is turning over to weld mode, or there shoudl be an adjustment you can do to make it darker. Some don't have the adjustment.
Your welder pulsing, sounds like somewhere its not getting enough power, i had a transformer welder recently doing the same thing, it was a bad connection inside. hth

OK so it is definitely a wire feed issue.
Release the wire tension and move the wire out of the way of the roller. See if the wire roller rotates smoothly when the trigger is pulled - that will narrow it down.
If the roller is smooth running (with a little finger pressure) then it is the wire mechanism - check for debris between the wire roll and the wall of the welder - if you wind the wire back onto the roll does the roll rotate smoothly?
If the roller is pulsing then it could be the motor feed voltage (multimeter check) or the motor brushes.

I had the same problem with my welding mask from new and couldn't get to grips with it for years and ended masking the arc with the nozzle so recently bought a new more expensive Lincoln one. The difference is amazing and worth every penny so would suggest you do the same. I am having the same problems with the welder though so am following with interest

Right The mask was filthy inside the entire dimming piece.. A good clean and re-assembly had it working again. The welder is somehow backing off the feed roll tensioner! So I fitted a small nut on the threads and lock it in place. Problem solved. After checking everything suggested above and replacing tip and liner (cheap so no harm)....I'rn out of gas Thank you all

.... and as crazy as this may sound, switch your mobile off - There is a secret rule within the Law of Sod that makes your phone ring/bleep just as you hook up the new bottle of gas, put on the gloves and helmet ....
