Thinking of moving on to a different project – I’ve had my fun with this one…
1998 Ford Puma
MOT until September 2019 – no advisories
88k on the clock
3 previous owners (including me)
More pics to follow after a good wash
Progress can be seen here: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/200901/1998-evilbay-pooma-1-7
In my ownership it’s had:
New clutch and slave cylinder 8k ago
New brake cylinders and shoes (rear)
New wishbones, ARB links, track rod ends at the front
Upgraded brakes – larger calipers, discs and pads from an ST150 fiesta (originals also supplied)
Pug 206 GTi wheels – 16” with good tyres all around
Fitted front lower strut brace (which really does tighten up the steering)
Serviced a couple of weeks ago – pollen filter, air filter, oil, oil filter, plugs, fuel filter
Cut and polished the headlamps, as well as fitting Osram Nightbreaker bulbs – huge improvement over standard
Replaced rear beam bushes with polybushes – it’ll never need doing again, which is good for all concerned frankly
Replaced the front washer jets with Focus misting ones - cover the screen much better - along with new blades.
She’s slightly lower than standard – running lowering springs at the front and -1 coil off standard at the rear. Still perfectly useable but looks much better this way.
Even the aircon blows cold
Everything works as it should!
Very little rust (surprising for a Puma of this age) – slight bubbing on the OSR arch (will get pictures up ASAP)
NOT SO GOOD:
Slight judder from the front discs on heavy braking – a set can be had for about £40
Parcel shelf is basically redundant – it constantly falls into the boot
I’ve got no evidence of a cambelt being done – not a lot of paperwork at all tbh.
Overall with the long trouble-free ticket and all the above work she’s got to be worth £550. I’d happily get in her now and drive to Scotland and back.
Car is located nr. Stansted, Essex. I’m off work this week so can be pretty flexible with viewing, but otherwise regular working hours apply.
