Hey guys, I posted my problems with a water pump swap the other day, thanks again for the help there, thats sorted but noticed my heater has stopped working, it was working fine before the swap, Ive checked fuses are ok, I did have a bit of coolant spray out the top hose on the heater matrix when bleeding but I had a plastic bag over the loom there, any advice would be much appreciated. Car is 1972 Mk3 Cortina originally 1600 XL now 2L pinto
Thanks,
Ant

If it worked before and it didn't now then their is either: - No coolant in the heater matrix i.e. airlock - Coolant but no flow - A blockage dislodged by changing your coolant.
The first one is probably the most likely, is their a bleed point on the matrix? Many older cars also required the heater set to hot when bleeding the coolant as it controls a flap to allow coolant to flow through the matrix. Its worth squeezing the rubber pipes going to the heater to try and 'burp' the coolant through.
Second, make sure the flap that allows hot coolant to flow when you turn on the heater is opening and closing correctly. Double check every hose you disconnected doing the job to make sure its all reassembled correctly.
And the third one, not very likely but it can happen on older cars. The only way to tell would be to remove the heater hoses and put a hosepipe on one end to try flush it out, if you get water flow then its not this.

Hey thanks for the reply, pretty sure the matrix is ok, all pipes are hot once engines running, top and bottom of matrix pipes are hot, the heater itself is dead, before as soon as you turn the ignition on the heater fan would hum as it’s always on in the car....but now nothing!
Cheers,
Ant

Hi, In what way is it not working, no heat or no blow?

Hi Colin, No blow mate! Before doing the water pump as soon as I turned the ignition on you would hear the heater hum away! The pipes top and bottom of the matrix get hot so I think if the fan was working there would be heat....🤞 Cheers, Ant

I can't see how they can really be related, perhaps just an unlucky coincidence. Its going to be a matter of diggin out the wiring diagram and working methodically through the circuit. Also try the fan speed switch if it has one, one position will be direct the others through resistors.
Good news is the heater in the cortina is a damn site easier to get out and appart than escorts or capris.

Hi, Check that the levers on the dash are moving the cables and that the cables are moving the flap levers in or on the heater box.

Just cecking - is it just the fan on the inerior heater that's stopped working? If so, it's likely something electrical that's died or been knocked (especially as the heater hoses are getting warm/hot).
What happens when you're driving - do you get warm air out of the screen vents etc?
