Rare Rust Free Example
Legendary OM606 Engine
Well maintained example of the E300 Turbo Diesel - has had new springs, discs, pads and tyres this year. Previous owner had this for almost 10 years, and only sold it due to a newer E350 model.
I love these cars and I have had many over the years. When needing something for a house move and general moving duties, I purchased this as I've got a soft spot for these with the OM606. The fact it had no rust attracted me to it even more.
Being such a clean, sound example, my plan was to keep hold of this long term and for it to appreciate in value. I firmly believe these cars will be modern classics very soon, and values of decent ones are already on the rise. However, I am potentially starting a new job next week, so need to thin down the car collection before I start. Space is limited, so some of my more recent purchases now need to go.
For those who don't know these cars - it was one of the first mainstream high performance production diesels. At the time, nothing came close. Audi and BMW had diesel engines pushing out circa 140 bhp, but when this came out it blew them all away with it's 177 bhp and 330nm torque. Clarkson drove one back in 1997, and he was duly impressed with the speed and power for a diesel (there is a video is on YouTube).
This is a strong, indestructible unit. They are known within the tuner scene to take huge power by fitting mechanical fuel pumps and large truck turbos. The blocks will handle north of 600 bhp without any issue. 199k miles and just running in!
Even to this day, you appreciate the grunt. Yes, it's not the quickest by modern standards, but there is something alluring and rather satisfying about ringing the engine up and pulling away. It has a proper old school 'clanger', which reminds me of the old InterCity 125 locomotives (I'm sad, I know!).
Clean MOT history - only ever failed one MOT due to headlamp aim - No advisories on the other MOTs since 2006! Try finding another car with an MOT history this clean. Even three year old cars have more advisories.
Runs well, no leaks or overheating. No warning lights on the dash. Gearbox changes as it should.
Good pull from the sought after OM606. Starts first time. Idles as it should. No hesitation or power loss.
Bodywork is the cleanest you will find for the year and money - I have had several of these, and most of them are rotten. Even though they are reliable, they look like heaps due to the rust! This one is an exception - previous owner has had all the rust treated and any affected areas resprayed. It looks clean and polishes up well. Front bumper had a slight knock a few years ago, and this was replaced. Due to this, the parking sensors are no longer working and there is a marker on the logbook. Does not affect the car in anyway, and on a 20 year old car, this isn't an issue.
Interior is also in decent order, with no rips or tears. Black leather has worn its age very well, and still feels like a decent quality material compared to the modern curse word these days.
Being an S210 estate, you all know how big the load capacity is. With the rear seats down, it will carry almost anything with ease.
Has a Tow Bar with Full Electrics.
Comes with 3 Keys, User Manuals, V5 Logbook (registered in my name), Various Old Bills & Receipts.
No time wasters, no dreamers, no silly offers. I know my cars and I certainly know what these are worth in this condition. If I put it on eBay, it will sell for over £2k (judging by recent auctions), but I can't be bothered with the hassle given the bad experiences I've had as of late.
Located in Shinfield, Berkshire, RG2 post code.
