Ok, so it looks like I now own a mk2 transit.
Now heres the catch, the van was imported from malta a number of years ago and has sat on a private bit of land ever since.
Now the owner cannot find any sort of paperwork for it and there are no form of number plates either. All that i have yo go off is the vin plate. The van was originally mabufactured in the uk and it looks like it was shipped to malta after that.
Any help appreciated. I don't know where to start!

I believe an MOT station can get the reg off the VIN? Someone can - then you could apply for the V5 I assume but not sure how it works if it's been re-imported. Saw someone post on Facebook the other day with a VIN and someone came back with a reg but wouldn't say how!

As all other imports are registered off of VIN, I can’t see it being a problem. Maybe ring the DVLA and talk to them? I’ve spoken to them a few times recently while registering my Legacy and everyone I spoke to was genuinely helpful.

Does that letter not imply that there were goods inside the van on 5/9/16 and it was brought into the uk just after that with those goods inside? Would September 2016 be enough for date of import? Cool looking van

No one's mentioned the fine for not declaring NOVA yet which increases per DAY after import ? Considering the six posts before yours were three from the OP asking for help because he didn't know, and three other cheery folks trying to be helpful who made it clear they did not know either, maybe it's time someone who does know to step in and pleasantly bring it up and help out with the advice the OP was looking for?

No one's mentioned the fine for not declaring NOVA yet which increases per DAY after import ? Well i don't know how it works. In theory i only bought it last thursday. Is that not an issue they would need to take up with the guy i bought it off. Thanks for the replies. I think its going to be an uphill battle.

There are two ways for ME to help with this . I can give a definitive answer NOW and then 20 posters will say something different or I can wait until 20 post's have been made and the state the facts .Either way these sort of threads tend to end up with lots of opinions and little fact. FACT for starting point www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk/telling-hmrcAs it's over 10 years old it won't require a BIVA test.

It's up to you to decide if you are a helpful person and post the info, or are going to let other people decide your contentment level and personality for you, or if you want to let yourself be annoyed constantly. Nobody else is responsible for that. If it makes you feel better to let lots of wrong info be posted before you weigh in with accurate info later, that's on you; personally I would just post up the answers to the OPs valid questions, then move on, and let the riffraff argue among themselves. For the most part everyone appreciates the work you've done and the answers you've got, but it does read as though it really irritates you to have to post any of it, and if really is that frustrating for you, perhaps you need a break from forums. Which isn't me suggesting you sod off, it's me saying, chill out. There's no need to get worked up.

The thing that I find most annoying about forums ...and facebook... and real life is having to persuade people that 'you' know what you are talking about. I don't know anything about you , you may be a brain surgeon or a groundworker . Both perfectly admirable jobs but I wouldn't take advice from a brain surgeon about footings You're right, I need a break from people.

I probably wouldn’t post on an open forum that the date I’d put on the NOVA application would be very, very recently 🤫

Ok. New twist to the tale. I have had a hpi check done on the chassis number and suprisingly it has given me the original registration it had in the uk before it was exported to malta.
Now iv run the reg through the dvla reg checker and its still showing as live with all the correct details for the van. However it does show an export marker.
Should i give a v62 form a go with the reg number i have and try to apply for a logbook first to save myself some hassle? I'm just not sure what the dvla will say?
Cheers
