Does any one know where I can get a Square End Wood Counter Bore Tool?
I need to put some square end counter bores in some wood battens then some M6 Allen bolts through the wood to fix them to a frame but I cannot find the correct counter bore any ideas any one?

Hi, You need a Forstner bit. Do the counter bore first then drill the hole, if you do it the other way round the bit has got no centre to locate on. A cap head bolt hasn't got much of a head on for wood so it might be an idea to use a washer as well.

Thank you Colin
I was hoping there was a tool similar to the chamffer bit with a drill in it but for a counter bore so I could do both at once as I only have to use it a few times, but I will get a Forstner bit for the size I want.

Pete - Pretty sure that one of these is what you are looking for Commonly known has Mortise drill - or a Mortise square end drill - readily available on the web / E Bay etc but you need a drill stand / drill press to use them

Thanks Chris but I need a round flat bottomed round counter bore not a Mortise drill.

Thanks Chris but I need a round flat bottomed round counter bore not a Mortise drill. Pete - Ah apologies I misunderstood - however a flat bladed wood bit / drill would give the result you are looking for

That's exactly what I wanted one ordered direct from Trend thank you.
Chris I looked at flat blades which I have and tried but they are not as precise.
