Hi all
I've just purchased a lovely 75 cdti for winter but the insurance quotes I'm getting are insanely high. Like £1k plus!
I'm over 25 with 3 years NCD.
Anyone else experienced this with a 75.
My MX5 is loads cheaper

Bizzare, any claim on that is likely to be a total loss due to its age and the fact that they are not made any more and new (genuine Rover) parts could be hard to get. Hence the maximum they pay out to you would be the cars value. The 'third party' risk should be no worse than the MX5 so I would expect the cost to be very cheap for this car.
Are your quotes from comparison sites or have you talked to a proper broker?

I know. I've never had such an expensive cost even running a 3.2 Audi years ago!
Tried comparison sites, direct to companies such as LV, admiral etc. Currently with RAC and they still want just over 1k.
Thought about brokers but assumed they'd be higher in cost as they add their bit on top.
It's a high price to pay to waft in comfort.
Awesome car though, so under rated!!

Insurance for "banger" era low value cars has jumped up massively, think the companies have cottoned onto the bangernomics thing and they guess that people won't look after them. Only way I've found to make it cheaper is to modify them. Got quoted £2200 to insure a stock 2003 Diesel Saxo. With wheels, lowering and a rattle can paint job its now £300-odd and a better level of cover.

Try getting a quote on an identical one, it's possible that one has had a repair in the past.
Or as suggested above, try a specialist and say its had aftermarket wheels or lowering.

I have only ever used comparison sites to give me an indication as to the insurance costs when looking for a new car. I have always used a broker for the actual insurance and they have always beaten the comparison sites - sometimes by a considerable margin. I currently use A-Plan. Might be worth a call to see what they can do for you. |

Peter Best insurance was good for me, a few years ago I was paying about £130 fully comp on my mg zs 180. I was about 27 at the time with 0 ncb, it was my only car but it was limited to 5000 miles. I also had to join the mg car club which cost about £45. www.75-zt.com/peter-best-insurance/ |

I just always use moneysupermarket and been ok, so unfortunaly I am no help whatsoever! Insurance prices don't actually make sense. I only posted as i wanted to say hope you get it sorted! I think the Rover 75 is a great cat and you get a lot of car for your money, diesels go like a train with a bit of electronic prodding :-)

Just insurance being insurance, i.e. finding some bill shut to bum you with.
I had the same on a old Saab and the reason I was given was that according to there statistics older cars were more at risk of accident.
Convenient to use there bill shut algorithm to overrule logic and history, that being my 18 Year's ncb which apparently is no record of how I drive!

Where are you in the country? A Postcode can play a big difference.
For a mate moving from Kenilworth to Meriden, his insurance almost doubled (£260-420) and that's with full NCB.

I have recently moved to a less rural and cheaper area of Derbyshire. It is quite close to rougher areas near chesterfield so could explain some of it. Mega busy so not had time for a shop around yet. 75 low rider you say?!!  |
