Honda civic 5 door hatch (MB6) 1.6 sohc vtec automatic in that metallic green that sometimes looks blue depending on which angle you look at it
125,000 miles, will rise gradually
MOT til 18/11/18
4x electric windows and electric sunroof, all working
Power steering
Full leather interior (could do with TLC)
Working air conditioning (you can feel that it's working, but it's weak. It hasn't been regassed at any point since she bought it, so could do with one)
Gearbox fluid fresh and red, no burnt smells, no issues from the box at all.
The trusty Honda has been in the family for about 14 years, it was owned previously by my mother in law, and was left to me when she passed, and I have run the car for the last 3 years or so. It's been my wife's car technically, but she doesn't really like driving it as she says its 'too big and grown up', and 'it's not cool or cute' and has gradually stopped driving it. So I bought her a Peugeot 205 (1600 auto) which she has fallen in love with. That means we now have 3 cars, so the Honda has to move on.
The car starts, runs and drives really well, kicks down when necessary and routinely provides mid 30s MPG on mixed driving. There's also no rust anywhere which is a surprise as Civics like to rust, especially round the rear arches. 4 good tyres aswell, 2 Hankooks on the front (about half worn), and the back two are different branded budget tyres, but one of them is less than 6 months old. I changed the oil in October of last year, and the thermostat in November last year (that took AGES, it's right down the back of the engine under the inlet manifold)
This year I have replaced the exhaust manifold with a good standard item due to a crack (common fault with cast iron Honda manifolds I'm told) along with a new Lambda sensor, which eliminated the intermittent yellow engine light that plagued my MIL for ages, she used to blame me for it as it seemed to come on every time I drove the car! The offside driveshaft has been replaced in April due to the original unit rusting out and snapping where a rubber balance weight was gathering mud/moisture, and I replaced the rear exhaust box about 2 months ago. I also replaced the brake light switch as it failed, so that's another fiddly pain in the back side job that you won't need to do!
So I'll be honest about the downsides to the Honda: the bodywork is pretty poor. It's not terrible; the paint is in good condition, but there is at least one dent or scrape on basically every panel, the worst being the NS front corner, and NS rear door in front of the arch- I've tried to get pictures of the damage. It's all straight though, no major damage. The interior is in good overall condition with low amounts of wear and the original mats are present, but the leather is kind of 'peeling' in places, could do with some product on it or maybe some professional attention to bring it back up to spec. The headlining is sagging in the back, and the passenger door card has some minor fag burns on it. The wheels could do with a refurb also, they hold air, but are not in the best nick (worst one pictured). Fan speeds 1 and 2 do not work. There is also the beginning of a crack in the windscreen on the NS lower corner, it's about 2 inches long but not in the driver's eyeline or centre of the windscreen so will be good for now. Is fitted with headlamp washers, but they don't work.
Here are the things that the Honda will definitely need for it's next MOT:
A new mid section exhaust, this snapped basically the day after I replaced the rear silencer, which is typical. It's rusted through right at the back just before it meets the rear box.
The handbrake doesn't work, at all. The lever pulls up no problems, but the brakes do not engage. I've had a quick look at the pads and discs at the rear and they are past their best and will need replacing. The front brakes are fine: they were replaced less than 12 months ago.
So in all, a really good, usable car that has plenty of life left in it that needs a good home and a bit of attention.
Any questions just ask/message. All reasonable offers considered.
