Got to love a road trip to collect a car. Or two! Yesterday, I headed south in my mate Dicky's Cavalier, with another mate, fellow Retro Rider JohnK, to collect his Citroen ZX from Beckenham, then on to Kent to collect the latest addition to the fleet, which is a shared purchase with the aforementioned John.
The Cav...
The ZX...
and another Citroen...
and another Cav in London...
Wagons roll...to Kent...to pick up the Sterling....
It was raining when we got there, which is never ideal, but it was pretty clear that it was a good'un and had been well looked after...
Details:
1999 Rover 820 Sterling 4 door
Nightfire Red
Manual
127k miles
2 litre T series engine
Grey leather interior
Heated seats with memory functions and electric adjustment
Electric sunroof, windows, mirrors
Remote Central Locking
Working aircon
Original head unit with CD changer in the boot
Original alloys with matching Goodyear tyres all round
Steering wheel controls for audio
Well, it'd be rude not to...
It drove so well on the way home, with 280 miles covered without issue with only a single 5 minute stop at Cambridge, and we got home just as it was getting dark...
The morning after the drive before, and time for a quick 'getting to know you wash'...
All in all, very smart for nearly 20 years old. It has a few little marks etc. Front plate isn't great...
Bonnet has a few chips and marks like this...
I love the interior though. Too goddam classy man!....
Unmarked boot area...
Trusty T series, which apparently has a slight oil leak, but I've yet to check it out. Didn't leave any marks on the drive last night though...
Quick little run out to Asda. Perhaps unsurprisingly, it was the only 800 in the car park...
Then round to the back of the house for a couple of pics! (It's not actually the back of my house)...
Over to Aldi, where it was part of a maroon love-in...
Then home to it's fellow 90s saloon on the drive...
Spent an hour or so clay barring it, then giving it a coat of SRP (always a great first couple of steps towards shininess)...
Finally round to the coffee shop to do a couple of little jobs. Looked good out there on the street like....
Plans?
Sort the ABS sensor (light is on intermittently)
Apparently the drivers door master window switch is temperamental
Check the oil leak
Wax the hell out of it. Nightfire Red is my favourite colour EVER, so let's get it looking it's best!
