It's "just had a respray" with a 4" brush in places. There's a couple of giveaways that it might not be a great choice. There should be a seam between the wing and sill, and another curving from the trim down to just where the bumper ends. Both of these look like they've got a fair bit of filler. Likewise the panel under the grille. The rear arches look a bit off, as does the tailgate. Verdict: Wobfest. Do not buy without looking at it first. Looking at the condition of the interior, before this was given fresh paint you would have seen its issues more clearer. I'd very much run away from that one. I'm making no judgement on condition, just flagging it up as on the market. Yes I can see it's no minter and you might want to take a pocket magnet along to an inspection but with decent ones going for £5-6K it's going to be a more affordable example. I don't know if it will break through the sellers reserve, or what he thinks it's worth? I'll check in when the auction finishes out of interest. This car hasn't had an MOT within the past decade which suggests garage find. It's on the DVLA website as an A55! It could be a deceased old dear's recently discovered chapel chariot that's had a bit of amateur restoration or it could be as rotten as a pear with the vendor capitalising upon its MOT exempt status.

And another one I've just stumbled across, no clue on price; www.the1100club.com/marketplace.phpFor Sale: Austin 1300 Countryman 1972 Austin 1300 Countryman Mk III, blue, needs restoration, seems to be a problem with the clutch and a core plug is gone. Open to sensible offers, would prefer to sell it to someone looking to finish restoring it. Contact 07900 670434 (Maidstone)

My points on the estate wasn't a criticism of the advert finding, more a warning for what they can be hiding. The 1100 I had taught me a lot about just where and how these cars rot and what people do to hide it and that estate is showing every sign of being a bad car tarted up to look like a good one and could lead to heartache for someone. It'll still make good money because of the stupid MoT exemption and that it's a desirable model, as these things go, even in Harvest Gold or whatever it is it's been painted in.

Id be steering clear of that one in the ebay listing. Simple things like the door catches not being removed when it was painted, the door seals having overspray on them. Visable things like that makes me wonder whats being hidden. And those hubcaps

Yeh that's the one I mentioned in my first post that went over what I'd be prepared to pay. He'd of been better just leaving it as it was found and presenting it as original(if rough).

@gt4me I doubt you'll find a cheaper one than this, will need work & ££'s. I don't think it'll be around for long! Off the road for 35 years. Engine seized through disuse. Garage find Austin 1300 Countryman. Dorset. £800.00

Been keeping my eyes open for an estate for a few months, had a bid on a couple on eBay but a nice one went over budget and a rougher one went higher than I'd have paid. They seem pretty thin on the ground compared to saloons. I doubt you'll find a cheaper one than this, will need work & ££'s. I don't think it'll be around for long! Off the road for 35 years. Engine seized through disuse. Garage find Austin 1300 estate. Dorset. £800.00

If you blasted that body, how much would be left?? It is undoubtedly going to require panels & plenty of welding but I've seen far far worse ADO16's advertised for much more money than this one. Rare!

Never owned or driven one of these, but the picture below was taken at last year's BMC show day at ferry meadows in Peterborough which suggests that panel availability isn't too bad

If its unrestored it looks to have had some paint. Look at the bonnet catch in the last pic, were they all like that? The chrome looks incredible on it too. I don't know when 'unrestored' becomes 'highly titivated'. Cant knock it though, if it was a manual and I had that sort of money id be somewhere in the que.

What a little beauty. If only I was given a crystal ball in my child hood I’d be a millionaire now! Or I’d just own loads of cool cars
