Been keeping my eyes open for an estate for a few months, had a bid on a couple on eBay but a nice one went over budget and a rougher one went higher than I'd have paid. They seem pretty thin on the ground compared to saloons.

Yep, you don't see many of them coming up so prices reflect that. I'd guess between all the car sales sites, classic auctions, etc. you might see half a dozen tops during the course of the year, and that might include cars outside the UK.

when i was regularly going to car shows 15 years ago you would rarely see one turn up on the 1100/1300 club stand, no matter how many 2 and 4 dr saloons there were. So yes, id say they are very rare. Id imagine the Allegro estate is more common in comparison with how many 2 and 4dr saloons there are, and there aint many of those either. Afew years ago I found an immaculate original 30,000 mile 1100 estate in white, just like the one in the picture. It was being sold by a modern car dealer on behalf of an elderly neighbour. It was clear that neither of them knew what they had so I slapped a deposit on it. When I returned home I found my father was taken ill so with so much going on I had to let the car go. Damn shame because it was soooo cheap, and in all the years id been going to show id never seen one in that sort of condition that hadnt been restored.

I'd have thought that was a pretty good price! Lots of sound 1100 / 1300 saloons selling for that and more.

I've had a couple of these over the years: a 1966 Riley Kestrel and a 1966 Morris 1100. The Kestrel, with it's twin carbs, was quite nippy.
I know BL sold thousands of ADO16s (and I know I bought 2!) but quite honestly these days I fail to see the attraction of them - the gearboxes and in particular the vague gearchange are 'orrible, the suspension allows them to wallow all over the place, and boy, do they rust!
Actually, I might just pop off to ebay and see if I can find a local one . . . . .

Blimey. I think the last time I saw one of these on the road was when my Mate's Mum was taking him home from the bike shop having bought him a Raleigh Burner for his birthday. It was 1982 and I can still see Ray happily waving from the boot cradling his new bike!! She part-exed it for a Polski-Fiat 125P of all things.
Don't recall seeing one on the road since, or even at a show. No surprise really, given how much they rotted. Quite a bit of space in them though.

Here's one I photographed in Hyde, Manchester in 2016. Don't know the owner or anything.

I know of two in New Zealand. One is well loved, the other has been rotting in a field for far too many years and every time I drive past it I wonder why I never made an attempt to purchase it before it went too far.

Of no use whatsoever but, in 1973 I passed my test in one. A 1300.

The Countryman only sold as the Mk1 body shape and they were not a big seller. Folks that have them tend to keep them because they're hard to find so when they do sell, they tend to be expensive as a result. As the market stands at the moment, for one that doesn't need work you will be looking at spending £5-8k depending on history, originality, and condition. If you find one for less than £1500 expect it to need a lot of bodywork.
Like other ADO16s, these suffer from rot in the sills (which are a layered four part construction), floors, boot floor, subframe mounting points, inner wing strengtheners, outer wings (especially around the headlights), door bottoms, tailgate, front and rear valance, and the bulkhead above the heater. The added difficulty is that the tailgate is a very rare panel so you generally have to repair what you've got and with Earlpart having recently closed down, panel supply for the rest isn't as good as it was.
With a £2k limit you're going to be looking at a project unless you're very lucky. On the plus side, they are quite easy to work on and being so small, even substantial bodywork repairs are never that large.

They seem pretty thin on the ground compared to saloons. If you stretched that £2K budget, (like trebled it) .... 1967 Morris 1100 Traveller. Leics. 30K miles. 3 owners. Looks very solid and original.

I’ve got a 1970 VP and am in the “ADO16info” club, it’s one of the best clubs I’ve been in, it’s an international club as well so maybe ask on there !? They’re also trying to sort parts supply (I thought earlpart had been taken over ?) and are already having some panels remanufactured , even if you find a car elsewhere I’d be joining the club imho 🙂

It's "just had a respray" with a 4" brush in places. There's a couple of giveaways that it might not be a great choice. There should be a seam between the wing and sill, and another curving from the trim down to just where the bumper ends. Both of these look like they've got a fair bit of filler. Likewise the panel under the grille. The rear arches look a bit off, as does the tailgate.
Verdict: Wobfest. Do not buy without looking at it first. Looking at the condition of the interior, before this was given fresh paint you would have seen its issues more clearer. I'd very much run away from that one.
