we have finally bit the bullet and after many years of us dreaming and also fulfilling my mums wish before she passed away , we are finally sat outside our own villa in lanzarote (pics to follow when we get home) with a cold beer , an empty bank account and a headache....the headache due to that voodoo thing called electrics....more specifically spanish electrics and led bulbs.
can anyone explain to me (in very laymans terms) , why , after changing 2 simple wall light fittings (only live and neutral..no earth) , if i install led bulbs rather than ordinary incandescent ones , they illuminate even when the switch turned off....then flash when turned on. they are wired on a 3 way curcuit...but if i put the same led bulbs in another room they are fine?
its making my brain hurt!!

Is there a dimmer in the circuit?

Unlikely, but are some of the circuits DC and others AC ? I replaced some downlights in my kitchen years ago and assumed it was all AC. It was not. The downlights had their own DC circuit fed from an AC adapter.

can only assume all dc...no dimmer...though its switched 3 ways and they are an odd (to me) push on push off arrangement. i have since put identical fittings (with leds) in the 2 bedrooms and not had the same issue but these are only single way switched , though they are the same push/push switches. I'm perfectly happy connecting stuff up but at a loss to know how it works...when it doesnt. wish i had thought to try the led bulbs in the old fittings first but as its only a live & neautral connection i don't really see as the fittings can be the issue??

Found this on google don't know it it helps, might help with fault finding can't understand why they're flashing though. You need some input from johnthesparky

Just went through this here - it was the switch, in my case dimmer.
You should be able to bypass the three way to see what happens.
I will scan and post the wiring for a three way switch if I can find the book.

Ah, read that wrong. Sounds like you’ve dropped the return path, so the flickering is the lights trying to dissipate the power and work. Definately sounds like a wiring fault, and 2 way switching is often hard to get your head around... so I’d start there.
It should be 230v ac, and they wire in singles in conduit to junction boxes (which you should be able to see the lids of) hidden in the walls
You could do with a tester really, or multimeter
I’ll leave me previous comment below, when I thought it was the lights flickering when off;
Pretty common, and get the same in uk.
I’ll post a better response on Sunday (on holiday at the mo, and Wi-fi keeps failing as I post)
It’s caused by a build up in the wiring that reaches a point and then makes the lamp flicker, doesn’t happen in incandescent lamps as there is always a path so they can discharge without building up.
I’d put a incandescent lamp in one of the fittings in the short term

Led's pick up very little current,if its a 1 way switch you can wire the neg live into l1, switch live into l1 and neg into l2 to short the switch live and beg when its off apparently, or run a cap on the light fitting.

mmmm... ive only got a basic set of handtools...and as it doesnt sound like an easy fix i think i will just leave incandescent bulbs in those 2 fittings until we have some other work done to warrant getting a local sparks on site. thanks for all the suggestions though gents.

Before you give up completely I'd at least check all the connections are secure, if there is something loose or not connected it could cause issues (or worst case fire).

Some of Europe, use a latching Relay in lighting curcuits, and that relay runs the light, so all the "switches" are really only "bell switches" (often safe power, 24vDC) used to operate the relay with the mains power(220vAC) on it. Is there a electrical panel in each room?

no , only the switch itself...though it is halfway between the uk single and double gang size , so no idea what voodoo it might contain!!

I don't have the time to go in full detail, but I had a VERY similar situation when I fitted wireless switches which do not work properly with LED.

Hi, It's a known phenomenon with LED floodlights with PIR detectors, they come on when movement is detected but then don't go off again because the LED interferes with the PIR.

defo something screwy going on with the system. when i changed one wall light in each bedroom they were working fine with the led bulbs in situ... but a couple of days later one was dimly glowing when switched off the same as the two in the lounge had been. see what the local guy comes up with. it wouldn't be a biggie to go back to incandescent bulbs but as we have bought the led's it would good to use them. heres the outside of the gaff.. and some lanza cool car action...
