1999 BMW 330ci Manual in rare Imola Red.
Drove very well before being stripped down for trackday prep.
I used it in a semi stripped state with bucket seat for a bit before taking it off the road to go the whole hog.
Time is short with 2 young kids however, so it’s for sale to clear space and get me closer to finishing off some projects.
Thoroughly stripped above the floorpan from the A pillars back, and ready to be rebuilt.
Comes with most parts to rebuild as a decent spec track car – the only things it really needs are a rear bumper skin and pair of headlamps.
Pics first! I’ll add more at the weekend showing how it stands right now, incl a load of the bits to build it back up.
The red winged seat shown is available if you prefer it to a non winged black one, but 2 seats aren't in the deal - they don't match.
For sale with all these parts, many are new:
- Safety Devices rear cage with double diagonal and harness bar; rear strut to floor brace; fitting kit (£850, as new)
- Adjustable damping rate and height-adjustable coilovers, unopened in box
- Pair of front and rear genuine M3 ARBs and bushes / mounts
- Rota Grid 18x8.5J alloys in unmarked gloss black, tyres all legal (5mm front, 3mm rear) although a taller profile than I'd choose once it's running
same rim width front and rear so you can run a square setup - this really helps the turn-in and agility of these cars
- Wheel stud conversion kit (saves fiddling with wheel bolts into blind holes, allows thin spacers if needed)
- Front M3-style bumper for standard body – new aftermarket part incl grilles
- Front splitter (from SEAT Leon Cupra R but looks spot on with this bumper)
- Genuine M3 carbon fibre front and rear bumper beams
- Bolt-in front towing eye
- Steel steering column intermediate joint – replaces rubber item to improve steering feel
- Aftermarket steering boss and dished steering wheel
- Pre-profiled black plastic door and three-quarter trim cards, and enough spare for a rear bulkhead panel
- Webbing pulls for flat door cards
- Short throw gearshift lever
- Gel motorsport battery, new and unused, still in box, about 12 months old
- Modified ECU
traction control and ABS disabled
throttle delay deleted
secondary air pump deleted
7000rpm rev limit
--> power is around 245-250bhp and the improved throttle response really transforms how it drives
- Twin (plumbed and hand-held) LifeLine extinguishers, in date, bought last year, new unused incl cables & nozzles
- E46-specific seat mounts for wide side-mounted seat
- Autostyle BS6 side mounted composite seat in black cloth – nearly new, only sat in a handful of times
- 1x set 6pt Schroth harness, black, out of date
- Heater control panel from a Navigation equipped car to free up the stereo space for gauges, cable pulls etc
- 3mm polycarbonate sheet to make rear, quarter and door glass replacements – I also have the original glass to use as templates
- Bends, clamps and straights to replace the (heavy) rear silencer box (now binned) with straight-through pipes
Also includes removed parts to be refitted:
- Main dash moulding, plus glovebox, column plastics etc if needed
- Instrument cluster & trims as removed
- Gutter rail trims in black
- Tailgate lock (my intention was to fit fibreglass bonnet and boot, I've currently still got the steel bonnet and boot panels although they're not in the best nick)
- Black kidney grilles for the bonnet
- Door and boot seals
- Door and quarter strips, although new clips probably needed
- Tail lights and boot foglights/reverse
- DTM-type door mirrors – the lightest and most aerodynamic ones I could find
- Handbrake lever (cables are still fitted to the shell)
Shell has side and rear glass removed; all sound deadening removed; and wiring pared back to minimum. Stuff like window regulators and electric mirrors are gone, as is the wiring for them.
The front wings were replaced not long before I bought the car so have zero rust, let alone rot. Complete cooling system was overhauled by the previous owner too, so it’s had water pump, belts, thermostat, fresh coolant and a radiator flush within the last few thousand miles.
I haven't broken into the cooling system although when I was driving it, it did need a heater control valve which would be a good time to get the rad pack off, flush it, replace any hoses it needs. I was also planning to make a takeoff plate to fit oil temp and pressure senders which is easier done with the radiator removed.
It’s pretty much ready to rebuild, with a lot of the hard work done, including the parts needed to do so, and then paint if you wanted.
- Wiring needs to be rewrapped, tested and anchored
- Engine bay relays and the ECU are freed up to pass into the cabin, just need mounting and a simple flat bulkhead plate making up
- Cabin is mostly painted in black Raptor bed liner so it won’t come off in use. Remaining paint included to complete the cabin paint job once cage is fitted
- Rollcage main hoop boxes and rear damper tower feet need welding in – these are supplied
- Battery cables from the boot have been removed so the primary 12v cable needs shortening and the race battery fitted up wherever you want to place it
- It’s a good opportunity to replace the heater “hedgehog” valve as a precaution while access is good
Other points:
- Minor corrosion to the trailing edge of the rear arches and the lower panel below the bootlid – normal on these
- Paintwork is dull and a little scratched up, but would respond well to a polish – I would probably plan to repaint / plastidip / wrap it but up to you
- Inlet manifold (it’s the desirable M54 330i one) currently removed to delete the DISA valve, also provides access to the oil pump unions which is why it’s still removed – it’s where you’d place the oil temp and pressure senders that are essential for a track car - this, as far as I'm aware, is the only reason it's not a runner right now
- Gearshift linkage failed which is when it was taken off the road about a year ago – I have a new lever, don’t know whether it needs any linkage pins etc from BMW but that should be very minor cost
- Spare wheel well has been cut out, but is included to return the shell to original if wanted
- This is the 330i so aside from more power than the other 6 pot variants, it’s also got bigger brakes front and rear so much less need to upgrade – should only need track spec pads and a decent feed of cold air (orange flexi hose included to do this) to give ample braking capability
As said above it doesn't start or drive, although for minor reasons, so needs to be trailered.
Lots of bits to take with it but if you aren't taking the old bonnet and boot, chances are it will all fit in the tow car.
There’s about £4500 of spend in this lot, so please consider your best price accordingly.
Happy to remove some of the more significant parts from the bundle if they're not your thing or you don't need them.
I am on 07889 844159, please text as I can’t take calls most of the time.
I’ll call you back if you text first, I don’t call unknown numbers back.
No swaps thanks. Got too many cars and projects as it is.
And am sad it's come to this as I'd love to complete this one.
Give me an offer or preferably come and see it.
I'm in Claverdon near Warwick, a couple of miles from M40 jct 15.
