I thought I should probably do a bit of a thread on what I get upto.
A lot of it wont be hugely interesting to most here but its good to record what happens.
I don't keep cars very long as I get bored, I get more enjoyment out of doing projects rather than driving. Things have been a bit slower on the car front for the last couple of years due to a new daughter, less time and less money....
Lets start at just before Christmas 2017. Money was tight and I had planning permission passed for a new wokshop, so my model A that I imported in many boxes was at a point where it could be moved on, A finished pic.
A few pics of work in progress. The subrails were very bad so I made up new sections to repair them.

Once it was done (they are never done), I agreed to deliver it, 2.5 hours away. All loaded up ready to go, should be a nice easy day, tomorrow. Uh oh, the snow started falling an hour into the journey, no traffic though so no problems getting there. A different story getting home, with lorries and cars abandoned and slewn across the carriageways made it into a 9 hour journey tugging the trailer, the shogun performed faultlessly though.

I don't like handing work on my own projects over to anyone else, be it cars, house, building etc so I do most stuff myself but it takes time that way. Il post some pics up.

Finally, got a few quid back In my pocket. Plan is to get the groundwork done before too much rain. I ve done a fair bit of building and reckon this base is massively over engineered - still, building control needed to know it was "designed" and the engineer has proved it by doing pages of gobbledegook maths, so I can hardly argue the point, pay him his money let him retire on what he charged me, not that I'm bitter. Borrowed a mates digger. Cleared trees and set out. So much for getting it done before too much rain. Cages all built around the perimeter and 1 through the middle, with 2 layers of reinforcing through the slab. Concrete pump with boom, done it too many times by barrowing and much raking, this time I vowed to do it the easy(ier)way. And base done, phew.

I'm my own worst enemy, but I don't have a lot of spare money, I have a reasonably good skill set (although judging by some of the threads on here my skills aren't as good as I thought!) so it makes sense to do things myself, I like learning new skills, and often when you do pay for something you are left wondering why you bothered.

I could write a book on the number of times I have thrown tradesmen off the job - I always state the standard that I want the work undertaken to - they always agree that they are capable of delivering such standards - then virtually immediately they start to cut corners - SWMBO now drags them into the workshop and shows them something that I am working on - tells them that if the work is not a close match to my workmanship then they will be booted up the road - most of them don't even bother sending the estimate after that so I end up doing it myself

Exactly that. Indeed it was my thinking re the house project we've just done (once I'd negotiated with the wife that things may take a little longer due to the day job ). Asides getting a couple of tradesman in to check a couple of things and subsequently give us the right bits of paper to say it had all been done the right way (electrics etc.) I did everything myself as much as I could... asides plastering - that is an art form in itself when doing such large areas. Plus it is what people tend judge everything on, so I did get someone else to do that. It will be the same with the cars, finishing and paint will be given to an expert who has the gear/expertise and work to a standard that I am looking for. I couldn't handle having a go at that and falling at the final hurdle due to learning as I went and having the incorrect set up. I should add that I'm feeling quite smug at the moment as the sparky who did the electrics sign off, has this week used our place as an example of his work which he has to do to keep a certain accreditation. I'll take that Out of interest, whereabouts in East Sussex are you?

Unfortunately I cant get out of plastering as I spent a good few as a plasterer.
I'm in Heathfield - where are you?

Over the border in Kent, but most of the toys are at the in-laws just up the road from you in Mark Cross.
Was a regular visitor to the reclamation yard in your part of the world while looking for bits for the house.

That looks like it’s going to be an awesome workshop! What size is it? I’m currently on a look out for a house, and the land to build a nice big workshop is one of the main criteria/ one already built
Book marked, and can’t wait to see more updates on not only the workshop, but on the wheeled projects too. Such an awesome variation!
