Not so cracking a job. In the torrential rain we had a leak appeared!
I've got to wait for the next dry and sunny day so everything warms up and I can get in to check where its coming from. I cant tell if its running along inside the roof and down a gap or if its a gap in the tiles somewhere. sigh.
I R not best pleased....

Oh that's bad news, do you know roughly where its coming in? could it be because the ridge is not one long strip?

Or the valley? did you do the valley 1st before the rest?

I'm pretty certain it's a leak at the valley tracking along a tile and then through a join.
I'll need to lift a few tiles to check though.

works till ongoing on the summer house. I've had a busy few weeks away so not as much as i'd like P8194809 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I was up on the roof today and hopefully found the leak site. One of the notches in the tiles goes into the valley area and I hadnt sealed it right to the tip, so there's a good chance it was acting like a scoop to draw the water in. I've filled it suitably with bitumen sealant. Hopefully thats sorted it. Will find out later in the week when it rains!

I wish.
Still needs
Door seals sorted with doors modified to match. Paint roof wood Coat of paint on all surfaces Roof edging / finishing panels Door and window surrounds Floor inside Wall insulation and panelling Roof insulation and panelling Paint interior Finish the roof felt edging
Plus loads more
I'm guessing at least October before I'm off it, probably with the interior left at a real basic unfinished condition.
I'm desperate to get back on the cars....
Roof needs a good soak as I'd tried the hose and it's ok. Sustained rain does tend to find leaks hoses don't show.

I R not best pleased.... my spidey sense was tingling on page 2 as you have overlapped the "ridge tiles" (shingles at top of apex) the wrong way for the slope. i know felt is very forgiving and sticky and you have plenty of layers and most likely got bitumen adhesive under it, and i feel like a nark for bringing it up as i am really enjoying the build. caveat caveat. but might be that ?

That is exactly how I ballsed it up, except it's the valley overlap that's the issue. Ridge overlap is all good. It's against the direction of the prevailing wind.
If it's the back wall overlap, then I've not done that yet. It's still to get a run of cut shingles that overlap to the back.

Got out for a bit on the summer house today. Its starting to dry up in there nicely now the roof seems better and i've capped the wall joints so moisture doesnt get in that way. Sorted the corner edging between the door and the window. Due to the angle I needed to make this from some wood, i've then roughly shaped it to round the sharp edge. Once the filler is dry i'll give it a good orbital sand to get the shape right. P8254810 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then started fitting the floor. put in some cross beams and started cutting tongue and groove to size. P8254811 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P8254812 by jono_misfit, on Flickr the odd angled piece is the main front to rear tie, and the odd angle is as the front face doesnt align to the rear. i also got fed up of using a screwdriver to open the door, so bought a handle. Georgian doors, so Georgian handle. P8254813 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I'm undecided if I'll fit a faux handle to the other door to balance it a bit more. also got a primer coat on the underside that will be visible. weather forecast said no rain... it lied.... but pushed on through. Started cutting the door surround trim P9084826 by jono_misfit, on Flickr couple of gaps that need attention then onto the main doors, which with the size of surround I have means that theres a tiny (5mm) sliver that had to be cut at the bottom to go down the side of the sill P9094827 by jono_misfit, on Flickr picture looks the same as the last one, but both sets sealed and screwed on P9094828 by jono_misfit, on Flickr fitted the door tie backs P9094829 by jono_misfit, on Flickr (doors still have a load of work required on the seal points, including some additional wood strips). cut the widow surround P9094830 by jono_misfit, on Flickr then ran round with the filler before it starts raining again. P9094831 by jono_misfit, on Flickr started cutting the infill panels for some of the overhang P9094832 by jono_misfit, on Flickr ran out of time before I could get this one cut P9094833 by jono_misfit, on Flickr some thing on next weekend, so will see if I get chance to work on it or not. I would really really like it to be finished so I can get back onto the morris and the escort. Its been over 4 months.....

Had a lot to do and only shortish gaps when it was dry this weekend, so battered on with it. finished off the infill panel P9154834 by jono_misfit, on Flickr i will need to fill this bit in before the local neighbourhood wasps find it to be perfect to live in. Caused by a miss application of a measuring stick... P9154835 by jono_misfit, on Flickr So have already got fed up with the water just barrelling off the roof in a sheet water fall, plus it splashed back and i'll end with damp. I really don't want a visible gutter stuck on the outside as it'll look naff. Hmmm. Hidden gutter required then. Screw on some wood to support things, and also a second one at an angle so it falls nicely. P9154836 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P9154837 by jono_misfit, on Flickr cut a second piece of the facia to hide it. P9154838 by jono_misfit, on Flickr go to the local builders supplier and have a look at everything they have looking for the most slender pipe. Found some internal waste pipe. Fit it to place (forget to take all the pictures whilst making) P9154839 by jono_misfit, on Flickr hidden gully into drain P9154840 by jono_misfit, on Flickr The notch at the end is left so I have a little weir should the drain ever block and it falls in the most convenient place. ran round with a paint brush in the dry spell P9154841 by jono_misfit, on Flickr made a hidden gutter at the other side, and this is the main pic i took.... P9154843 by jono_misfit, on Flickr basically i sectioned the tube and ran the felt into it, so the rain coming off the roof runs into it, then down a downspout and out into the drain channel. Also sprayed in some expanding foam to stop and of the drain rebounding into the cladding. (pre trim) P9154845 by jono_misfit, on Flickr door needed a strip to overlap and stop draught / rain. P9154844 by jono_misfit, on Flickr I couldnt find any moulding that I liked, so spent ages with the power planer and power file adjusting the wood to my desired profile. needed to notch out round the keeper. P9164846 by jono_misfit, on Flickr The warped door didnt help, and I had to adjust things a bit to get it all working nicely. P9164847 by jono_misfit, on Flickr started on some of the other finishing details. used some wood to frame the front strut / cladding interface P9164848 by jono_misfit, on Flickr The cut lines look all wonky, mainly as they are due to the strut coming in in two angles. Once the fillers set and sanded it'll look fine and square. I then decided the peak of the roof needed something to finish it. At the same time it also seemed like a good opportunity to annoy mrs_misfit, the neighbours, and stamp my mark on the summer house. I was listening to some good metal and found inspiration. P9164849 by jono_misfit, on Flickr trace my hand, and add in some key features P9164850 by jono_misfit, on Flickr butcher with a jig saw. P9164851 by jono_misfit, on Flickr that bit was tough to cut.... ah, that'll be why. OOps. P9164852 by jono_misfit, on Flickr using completely the wrong type / size of chisel i cut round the lines. P9164853 by jono_misfit, on Flickr sanded it lots and. Boom P9164854 by jono_misfit, on Flickr P9164855 by jono_misfit, on Flickr When I came in the house there was a raised eyebrow and a "really?". I feel it achieved its purpose well. Adjusted the fits on loads of bits as well, and also ran round a put some more paint on things. Externally there's a few bits to sort out, then give it all another overall paint. Hopefully the Drainpipes will have sorted a very small damp spot I have in one joint, if so then I should be free to insulate and board out the inside.
