I was talking about big n/a engine versus small turbo engines, thats where the difference is. In which case, small engine, turbo'd FTW. Power to weight ratio and all that......... Unless the big N/A is alloy block and the small blown one is iron.......

your post doesn't mention that when they got the handle of there turbo motor,by how much did there lap times come down? remeber most turbo cars are banned in competition, apart from wrc of course, but there is no n/a cars to race against...............................

I love turbo's.
The ghias great as you can drive it under 3000 off boost all teh time, its lovely smooth engine with enough torque and a nice sound, doesnt even use any petrol (less than stock) then boot it and anything over 3000 it goes like stink. Its like having two engines. To get that power N/A it would be drinking loads of petrol and i wouldnt be able to afford to run the damm thing.

LMFAO.....and your qualifications for this statement are?.... sorry, but by saying that you have no clue whatsoever about drag racing..... ;D I like drag racing, but it should be called drag time trailing, its not racing without corners or real people to get in your way. Its more like testing how fast you can make a car go, no racing in it.

3 seconds is a huge amount !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! quote{I like drag racing, but it should be called drag time trailing, its not racing without corners or real people to get in your way.}quote stay of the drugs, it aint big or clever keep of the drugs yeah 3 seconds is loads, but with more than twice the power and the turbo cars supossed torque advantae the driver was saying he had far more trouble staying with people around bends, although he was faster on the straights he was heldfup moreon the bends so didnt always get to use his 3 seconds. i like drugs thank you very much. bring your car to a proper race meeting and lets see you have a go at "time trialing " then..... ;D make a mistake in roundy racing and you have lots of laps to make it up.Make one in drag racing and you've lost.I'd like to see you handle a car spinning the wheels trying to go sideways at 170mph.... ;D i have been drag racing as it happens and i hae driven some of my mates 400bhp cossie powered mk1 escorts that can hit 170 or spin the wheels at 150, i have also owned various american and australian cars including a Ford Fairmont XB coupe (same shape as mad max's falcon) with a 460 big block in it, i live about 10 mins from north weald, my cars often go to the run what you brung's, the jeep would have been up the strip at santa pod at ford fair if they hadnt kicked up a fuss about it ot being a ford, its fun and exciting and yes "you snooze you lose" as they say, but its not a race is it? its a timed event that you can run on your own without an opponent so who exactly are you racing against??

didnt always get to use his 3 seconds? wtf do you mean? and can't you go round a track on your own? most circuit racers take their lap times from qualifying or practise laps, and you can be REALLY fast out on your own, but if your car don't give you the ability to sit behind someone and then boot it and get power right when you need it you cant always use that power in the race, plus in practise you can brake later into corners after going faster down the straight, but if there is a car in your way you HAVE to brake earlier, so you cant go so fast down the straight, so you lose your top speed advantage and need your midrange grunt to get passed on the exit for example.

As a comparison it's a bit like an evening at a kart track with your mates to an F1 race.....

try over taking them?

championship drag racing is 2 people racing against each other. rwyb is totally different. As a comparison it's a bit like an evening at a kart track with your mates to an F1 race..... well yeah i know that, same as a track day don't compare to a real race day, but if i had the money to race, i'd want to race round corners aainst real people rather than against the clock or another engine, drag racing is great, but we have corners in this country so its not really relevant to discussions relating to road car performance. but ifthereis a car in your way you HAVE to brake earlier try over taking them? and need your midrange grunt to get passedon the exit for example. turbo cars have massive midrange grunt ! you cant always overtake, especially as a slower guy will make HUGE efforts to defend his line from you if he knows he has the instant go to keep you behind him out of a corner, its easy to slow just enough to drop a turbo car out of his best boost range while holding him off then rely on the half second it takes him to get back into it, and turbo cars don't have more mid range grunt than bigger engine N/A cars generally.

Everyone seems to be forgetting i only said a big N/A engine will usually be faster than a small turbo engine in a race.
I never said turbo's were poo, or slow, or suffered loads of lag, or had no midrange grunt or were slower than the same size N/A engine.

and turbo cars don't have more mid range grunt than bigger engine N/A cars generally. ok care to prove that? well how about looking back in this thread at my RR chart compared to the one from the Starion above it, mine was a bigger engine, with a fair bit less top end power, but look how much torque mine makes and how low down it starts compared to the smaller engine turbo car. Mines making 150lb/ft at half the revs it takes his to do it, also notice how flat my curve is compared to the turbo one, and the fact that my max torque comes in much lower than his does, he ends up with more than i have, but then if my engine had the extra 30odd bhp that his has i would expect my torque to go up in proportion.

Your choice of racing is yours,i haven't got a problem with that..... I responded to your quote that "drag racing isn't really racing",which is quite frankly boll ocks..... no offence... ;D and everyone has a drag race from traffic lights.... only idiots go fast round corners on the road. As I have a street legal car I would say it's totally relevant to road car performance...

my jeep is fast off the lights, it has a V8, auto box, naff all weight and very low gearing (100mph at max rpm) i still wouldnt call it a race car as at the first sign of a corner it aims its at the kerb, and its not hard to stomp my foot down, my granny could drive the jeep of the lights quick. I was taking the curse word though, hence the smiley.
