I know that there a re few horologists on RR, so any advice would be gratefully received. I have a clock that was my grand-dads retirement gift when he left the civil service in 1960. To me it looks like an unusual design with a rotating pendulum, I'm sure there's a proper name for the movement. Although it obviously needs a clean the actual movement is clean under the case. The obvious problem is that the 'cable' attaching the weights is broken, I'm sure it doesn't have any real value but from a sentimental point it does to me and it would be nice to have it going again. Hmm, not really my sort of thing. They're known as 400 day clocks which if you Google you'll be able to find out some more about. They run for so long on a single wind because the 'pendulum' beats so slowly and receives only a very small impulse each time from the movement. Some spares are available so you should be able to get a new suspension spring for it.

I have found them on Google but need to do a bit more research.

Yes, that's the suspension spring. It is much finer and longer than a normal pendulum clock suspension since it works as a torsion spring rather than just holding up a pendulum that swings back and forth.
