I don't watch YouTube. I rarely get past the "you can skip this ad in 6 seconds" part. I've never watched an episode of Roadkill... and am even less likely to now. My (precious) time on a computer is spent sorting photos and posting rubbish on the four or so forums I still can stand to look on. Where the hell do you guys get the time to spend in front of a computer or whatever? Does no-one do stuff any more? Genuinely baffled I watch YouTube on my tv via my phone cia sky q box lol. Yeah, I can watch YouTube on my TV too, but when I'm watching TV I want to... errrm... watch TV. Rarely have much time to do a lot of that either Point is, would I rather watch something admittedly tailored down to the twittering masses with broad content but astonishing production values that make you go "wow!" (Top Gear) or would I rather watch something more niche and possibly more relevant to my taste but recorded by some unprepossessing beard on a wobbly phone cam at the end of selfie stick? Or worse... Shmee? Genuinely tooth-shatteringly annoying. Nope nope nopeity nope. I want to be entertained, not lectured.

It's clear you've never watched any of the motor trend shows or the like, they are proper, high production shows. Things like might car mods is now being shown on "normal" TV in some places.

It's clear I've never watched it because I said "I've never watched it" in my previous post. The point remains that I'm never likely to, less and less the further down the road of being parceled up and sold it goes. Most of the people I know in the real world don't do this either. I find it weird that "internet people" do. All these fragmented snippets of formats and options will eventually die out as massive businesses out-compete each other to own the rights to everything. The internet is being bought behind closed doors and content is sold to the highest bidder. And let's face it, it'll be Google or whoever, it won't be independent niche interest lone wolves. Basically the travesty that Wheeler Dealers descended into over the years will happen to all of them as bigger and bigger production companies absorb smaller ones. And I just can't be bothered. Maybe I'm weird but association implies I'm not that rare. Nobody wants to back betamax or, worse, laser discs. Nothing's free and if you cant see the price then you're the product. And I don't speak as someone especially luddite or resentful of tech or progress, but I'd have thought the recent farce with Cambridge Analytica would ring alarm bells with people. Oddly, no-one seems to give a damn. Increasingly I feel the less presence I have on line the better my life will be. Maybe it's old age sneaking up, but I'm the only person who owns me and everyone who presumes otherwise can sod off ...well, that was a lot of random gibberish. If anyone can explain to me what I mean I'll be very grateful. I think that vidcast thing by Stuart Lee resonated too closely

I looked at the MOTOD site and it's $24.99 for a year or $99.99 for two ?? There must be some even smaller, small print I am missing here as that clearly does not make sense!

Oh yes I see after you click through, in greyed out writing, in smaller than small print. Pretty sneaky, it doesn't say "offer" anywhere. Maybe it is just me but I judge a book (or content provider) by it's cover (or web site). Tried to take a look at the T+Cs/Privacy but just redirects to the home page.

I've had a subscription for a while and was paying around $10AU a month and was happy enough with that. It expired last week so I was happy to jump on the deal for $30AU a year. I won't be re-subscribing next year unless the price is similar and the content is still good.
I've got the Motortrend app on my phone and iPad - but these are now removed from the app store in Australia for some strange reason. When I'm not logged in I can view the free episodes on the app, but not on the website.
I've also got the app on my xbox so I can watch in on the TV - better check the app still works.
You can always sign up for a 14 day trial, binge watch all the episodes and then cancel it before your billing cycle starts...

Apparently the app for non-US territories is being updated and will be available soon. Pretty dreadful timing considering the massive amount of people who will be wanting to download the app since the announcement... what were they thinking?! But it's on its way.

I have no interest in adding yet another app, so no access for me other than through the website on a PC. Somehow I think I shall stick to MCM, SOUP, Jay Leno and all the other great stuff on YT.

As far as I understand it from several sources, it would seem that for a while on motor trends website there will be the option to watch videos with ads in them. Whether that means that will only last a short while, or the video will only be available for a short while after upload in that format, I don't know... but if that is the case, it makes everything a an awful lot less dramatic.
