hi, want some opinions on this one if i may... 1975 mk1 escort- its a rare old model- 1300e - and i cant think of the last time i see a E come up for sale. basicaly it wants a lot of welding- or if you are going for a quick soloution, then a re-shell. strut tops have been plated, scuttle corners are rusting out so want a repair, bulkhead wants a little welding, door bottoms are starting to go, rear arches arnt too bad, but prob best to factor in a pair of rear arches, roof along gutters is starting to rust out the top skin- from where water has got under the vinyl. car will want a re paint after the welding or re-shell. but all the parts are there, and car is complete. everything what makes a 1300E a E is all there- i.e. the trims, dash, wooden cappings etc. the interior is all complete and not too bad condition, needs a good clean up. engine is free, but hasnt been started for a while, so assume it needs a good service, mayby a re build to make it as great as it once was! think its only had 4 or 5 owners in its life, and has been neglected over the last few years. whats it worth?? anyone want it??

Not easy to say as the Ford boys might pay £1500 or 5k .
I would stick it on ebay emphasising that its complete , as complete cars are rare on there .
You will get dozens of people asking you to end the auction early and that they will take it straight away but let the auction run .
Someone will pay silly money for that .

Unfortunately being the 4-door version makes it the least valuable body variant of the Mark 1. If it were restored to a good standard it would probably be worth £15K-£17K. It is resurrectable but there's a heck of lot of work to do to restore the bodywork, including remedying the agricultural looking welding work it's had done in the past before you get as far as the re-spray. Assume full engine rebuild required as well as reconditioning of gearbox, replacement of ancillaries & lots of work to bring interior back to a presentable condition, (which might well involve getting seats re-upholstered). If you were getting this work done professionally it'll swallow the best part of £10K pretty easily. I'd say £5K give or take £1K. I'd echo skylinedave 's advice - pop it on ebay as a long auction. Include a detailed & accurate description alongside a good photo portfolio. Encourage viewings. You can always set a realistic reserve. Let the auction run its course. That's how to find out what it's worth & maximise your return. A 2 door 1300E in nice order offered at £20K; www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C890385

Yep, thinking of selling this one because again, it's now sitting outside, I won't get round to it for a good year or so, and I can't bear to see it determinate under a tarp. The car needs attention now in order to bring it back, but having said that, the rate mk1 escorts seem to be going up in value, in a couple of years time, in the same condition, it could well be worth double it's current value. I'm realy on the fence about selling this one.... And yes mint ones are fetching high teens, so potentially if you want a mint one, then restoring one like this could be the best financial decision in order to get to that point. I'm reluctant to go down the eBay route, just because there are so many time wasters who win auctions and then disappear int thin air... Advice welcome,....

To be honest that shell has had it . It will either be broke of have very extensive surgery or worse still be reshelled . Can you see your self doing such a job your self ? Every single but bolt and washer needs coming off and redoing - not that this will bother bidders .
I would say in a year the roof is going to be holed right through and it will look worse to potential bidders .
If you really want one to do up you will have enough from the sale of this to buy one of the foreign ones for sale on ebay that are better off .
I cant see anyone buying for much as a straight sale , maybe 3k max but ebay is where its at . I know you do not want to do that but i really believe you will make much more .
Do a detailed description with your do'd and don'ts. Ignore all the silly questions , job done .

4 door cars are cool nice see 4 door 1300e getting done, heres pic off my more door show they can look as good as any 2 door, Great looking car but truthfully the 2 / 3 door version of any 4 door car always has a Coupé-esque sportier appearance. The monocoques of 2 / 3 door versions are generally also more rigid which is why you seldom see 4 / 5 door rally cars. The market also usually pays more for 2 less doors. Could you say, hand on heart, that ↓ this ↓ doesn't look as good as the 4 door version?
