So! when I was a little boy, aged 6, my Grandad got my Nan's old one of these out of the garage for me to play with. I sat there for hours and hours, imagining i could get it to ride (it had been in the garage for a decade at least!) however i loved it. So here is my project example! not the most manly bike in the world, and indeed my first bike! (on the hunt for a 125cc motorbike already!) assesment? its beige under all the grime! gotta love a beige 1980's scooter lol. clean it up, and see whats what is the first call! monumental oil leak from the bottom of the engine being the most obvious thing... should be fun! currently tucked away in my container waiting forme to finsd afew mins, but hey, I'm back to tinkering!

Found it. Will post it in the morning. And before anyone reminds me, 49cc of raw power resulted in a broken shoulder some years ago. It's better that you have use of it rather than languishing in a drawer here.

Ive got one of these lurking in the workshop, fun little things to ride but not very quick at all. This one was the direction I wanted to head in with mine before other things got in the way.

With the weather, and still being between houses not much has happened with this yet... I have wiped some of the dust and muck off tho! From a cursory perusal i have determined that the brakes are good, though need a new spring on the rear, new gasket is required as the oil is now all over the floor, oh and there is a pipe that should be connected somewhere.. Removed the back box as on such a small scooter it looks a bit silly imo :-)

Soooo, still not got the chance to fully crack on with this little thing yet, however I made the journey to my storage container and had arummage and a look and took some photos! The first question... where does that pipe connect to.... The second question... oil leak! and a particularily fubarred rear brake springe, the brake is a bit stiff but does go on fine, just tat release spring aint pushing much! Shows the oil leak again.. am i right in thinking gasket? Amongst the pile of bits and bobs the original mirror! havent decided whether I will attach it or not but good to find. I also found all of the bits of the old tax disc holder.. think i may try and obtain a tax disk for it for posterity something about an instrument panel like that :-) Hopefully soon some actual progress will begin, and I feel i may make a post about why this little bike, and trying to mend it, is good for me :-)

I've had some ace fun playing around and tinkering with mopeds like this in my yooof. A charity local to me - North East Lincs Motor Project used to get Police snatch backs and unclaimed stolen / recovered bikes. We used to faff about with them, give them a bit of a makeover and ship them out to charities in Gambia where the local teachers and Police used them to get about on. Happy days
