Just reading another garage build and figured I would post mine up! Did this about a year ago now
I have a fairly long garden, at the bottom of this is an area full of trees/brambles/nettles/things that get stuck to the cat/kids. At the top of the garden behind the bungalow was a 1970’s concrete sectional garage which I had lived with happily until my purchase of an XJR that was 4” longer than the garage.
The result is that the single garage was knocked down to allow vehicular access the the bottom of the garden and the build began!
The site was cleared and “lots” of hard core compressed to give solid ground for the base and to drive on, between this under tree area and the drive beside the bungalow is still lawn. As I don’t use my car much in winter it causes no mud issues and the kids still retain the lawn, the soil is unbelievably hard anyway, just very greasy in winter
As you can see the construction is timber, I used 4x2 framing, clad in 175mm black barn clad. This was the insulated in the walls and roof. To keep costs down I found second hand but practically new doors and window (these combined cost just £80) love gumtree!
Also as the garage is 7.2m x 7.2m you can see in one of the pics above the huge steel RSJ that holds the roof up
Once the electrical bits were in the inside was then clad in white UPVC hollow board. This stuff wipes clean, is cheap and looks nice I think.
one half is man cave with a laminate floor the other half is garage with a oil based painted floor.
The outside driveway bit was covered in 20mm shingle, again to keep costs down
So after a year of having it finished it’s been fantastic, the jag has gone now as has the Subaru but it’s nice be able to buy a car on merits other than its ability to fit in a 70’s garage.
Thanks for looking
