I have a 96 Peugeot 406 XUDT and it's just developed a fault. Twice it has refused to start. It will turn over but not fire. There's no spluttering or coughing so I suspect that it may be an electrical fault. After removing and replacing ECU and immobiliser fuses plus disconnecting and reconnecting the battery it fired up and ran with no issues (including switching off and back on again a few times over the course of an hour or so driving). It was fine the following day but did the same today. This time I just disconnected and reconnected the battery and it fired up. I drove about 120 miles (including about 6 stops) and no problems.
There are no warning lights showing and once it's going it's fine. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Test the fuel shut off solenoid (and wiring to it) on the pump.
Stick a clear fuel line on from filter to pump so you can see what fuel and or air is going in.
Make sure glow plug relay is doing it's thing if this is a cold start problem.

Make sure glow plug relay is doing it's thing if this is a cold start problem. The fuel shut off is a possible candidate. I'm pretty sure it's not glow plugs as when it does fire up it's as if nothing was wrong ie not spluttering, smoke etc. And it has done a couple of cold starts with no issues.

Does this have a keypad immobiliser? No.

On scanning the owner's manual I found a bit about resetting the ECU after having disconnected the battery - reconnect battery, turn on ignition and wait for ten seconds before starting the engine. Did that and have had no issues since (about 20 starts, hot and cold and inbetween). I'll use it for another week or two before declaring victory but looks good so far.....
