The GOV.UK MOT site now shows the location rather than the test number. It obviously only starts from the computerisation in 2005? But it's helped me track down some missing history. Any use to anyone?

Just checked it and it shows both - seems you caught them mid change.
Interesting change, will certainly help with the history of a vehicle, and maybe also give some insight in how strict or not specific MOT stations are.

Just checked a couple of my old bins, and my beetle which was condemned with rust was Moted 200 miles away, must have been restored. Gutted and pleased at the same time  |

One of the entries says 'Drivers door cannot be opened from inside the vehicle'

Only problem now is security... anyone can find out the area the car is in... That's never been difficult to find out if you know who to ask. I never had the connections previously but now I know where after 30 mins on the net where at least 40 million pounds worth of cars are regularly mot'ed. |

Thats really handy, cant believe how many of my cars have come from or ended up in similar parts of the country though.

Been trying to track down my dads familys old E-Type, i now know where it was MOTed for the last few years, and due to how little miles its done between MOTs, i know the area its in.
Which is both good, for people trying to track down cars they once owned etc. And bad, because now anyone can find the area rare cars live in. Especially those that do very little miles between garage vists.

I wonder when they'll get around to combining the VED check page and MOT history. Currently you bring up the vehicle enquiry and there's a link to "Check MOT", but you have to start again from scratch. Would be nice to see that button be "Check MOT for this vehicle", or just put the information on the same page.
I hadn't considered the security aspect of it, I'm not sure it would help anyone narrow down my location.

Been using the MOT site too much lately as a tool for deciding to usually not go for a car.
Just filled out a survey to highlighted my concerns regarding the security implications of listing the mot station details. Think it would help if others completed a survey as well.

Just gave this feedback:
"I am concerned about the security implications of this service. While a fantastic tool for the curious, and for checking the MOT history of a car one might be considering purchasing, it could well be used for nefarious purposes too.
For example, were I of a mind to steal a car I had seen online (perhaps someone's very recently restored classic), if they have posted photographs of the car at their home address, using the information on where the car was MOT'd could make it easier to find, and take, the car were I so inclined. "

It's nice in a way for owners to find out where their cars have spent their formative years, but beyond that and maybe Police wanting to know where it was Moted, I don't really see the purpose?

Thats really handy, cant believe how many of my cars have come from or ended up in similar parts of the country though. Yeah this! My Celica was owned by a guy down the road when first imported it seems, then moved away and is now back with me, 5 miles from where it used to live 15 yrs ago. |
