Well, the headliner fix worked for about 5 seconds! Seemed like a good idea at the time!
I've just ordered some clear twist pins. Not the prettiest of jobs but it'll stop the headlining lining people's heads for now...

Thanks to my sons buying completely the wrong pins (multicoloured ones) I've got a rainbow effect going on with my headliner.

Haha - I'm hoping these will look inconspicuous enough. Did you manage to get the headliner taut and smooth? Any tips?

I'm glad you enjoyed my tales. It's good to know my misery can cheer others up . FWIW I do hope your glue was specific for car or at least from AS-Trim. I've been there before with the M3 and the Carina. In short, everything else failed . I best update the Carina thread on that.

Credit where it is due it looks OK in the photos, and alot better than what it was. At least it will do until you or someone else wants to throw in another headliner .

Cheers guys, i think I'd imagined it looking smooth and perfect after my needle-can mod... but when that failed this was my back up! It's funny; my mate commented that it gave it a chesterfield look, and completed the 'gentleman's club feel'! 😂

Well, what can i say? It's not going well. I gave it to a garage to look at alternator 'battery not charging' message, even though it is actually charging.. told them there's a cold miss I'd like looking at, too.
3 days later, after no contact (bearing in mind it had to be booked in a fortnight in advance) i call up to enquire as to the progress.
"Yeah, so it's what you said it was, needs a better quality alternator"
##I did tell you that, what's been happening for 3 days?... i think to myself.##
"Right, how much?"
"£350 all in"
"Wow. How's the missfire when cold?"
"Oh, it's got a missfire?"
## are you kidding? ##
"Right, whatever, i have literally no time to do the alternator again, just do it and forget the miss"
"Ok, it wont be until the end of next week"
"I'm coming to collect it, don't touch it again"

I'm just going to buy a better alternator and fit it myself next week. Then i need to determine what the cold miss is. And one day i might drive it 😑

oh ok, shame you're not in the Midlands... I used to use a local Jag specialist who's spot on and has all the Jag diagnostic software... plus he doesn't rip you off... a sound bloke. is the miss throwing up any error codes?

Re the miss fire , do you know when it last had plugs ? Used to change them earlier than the service schedule recommended on Range Rovers (same engine) when ran on lpg . Mostly seemed cure a slight miss .

I don't know when it last had plugs, but the miss only happens when cold, and i forgot to say that it only seems to be on idle and low revs. When it's warm it runs much better, too. There's an intermittent noise that accompanies the poor running which has me paranoid about tensioners, but it's had steel secondaries fitted and the primaries are supposed to be fine on a 2001 model.

Well that's one of the first encouraging things I've heard since i bought it! Wish i knew what the cold miss is though... Picked it up from the cowboys this evening - had another awesome drive in it. I love the seating position, the noise, the power. It's an absolute beast. I just need to determine what this cold miss is, remedy it and then drive the hell out of it.

they're complex animals to diagnose... you can probably fix it yourself once you know what the problem / duff part is but to diagnose the fault the easiest way ( and probably cheapest in the long run) is to take it to a Jag specialist with the proper Jag software or autoenginuity to find the fault for you... you can then take it from there.It'll only take them 10 mins to scan the car. Have you tried a cheapo ebay OBDII code reader?, this is the one I bought...I used to keep it in the boot! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-Car-Fault-Code-Reader-U480-Engine-Diagnostic-OBD2-OBDII-ELM327-SCANNER-/142535595326?hash=item212fc8953e:g:1KEAAOSwIgpZ3VEmcheap as chips and amazingly it pulled out a surprisingly high number of codes out of my XJR.. you only have to go over a bump in these cars for the engine management light to come on... one of these cheapo code readers will reset the EML... maybe worth a go. It comes with a list of generic fault codes but you can download the Jaguar specific codes anywhere off the net. Obviously, it won't pull out as many codes as the proper Jag gear a specialist has and it won't pull codes out of abs or airbag modules but it's worth a go for a misfire, plus it's a dead handy thing for a XJR owner to have ... in fact, they should come as standard in the toolkit as they are the thing you'll use the most.
