I have welded an exhaust cat onto a standard decat pipe as it needed one for the MOT, and the fit meant the join wouldn't seal corrected on the cat unions. Everything is fine now, but my welds have tiny holes that's are blowing slightly. Is there any way of sealing the welds from the inside? Exhaust paste is always wibblepoo as moisture just makes is soft again. Is there anything else I could try, at least to get it through the looming retest? I know I could weld it properly but that's not what I'm asking.

Not sure about inside but I've used a bit of chemical metal on pinholes before, worked a treat.

anything else is temporary and will hinder any subsequent proper repair.

Seriously just crank up that heat and seal her up. Nothing else will hold.

Exhaust paste then an alloy tin can over the top of it to stop the paste blowing away, secure with a jubilee clip or 2. You could use chemical metal in place of paste, not sure how it handles heat though.

I used Loctite Flange Gasket stuff and it's set inside nicely and doesn't blow. I was reading moisture cures it.

Fnar fnar! You used the words "flange", "blow", "(lock)tight", "inside", and "moisture" in the same post.

I had to do a temporary bodge when our daughter's exhaust fell of one dark wet night and all I had to hand was standard Isopon body filler. I stuck it back together with that and told her to bring it back next week and I'd weld it up.
Nine months later the Isopon is still holding it together. I never realised it would take the heat to be honest but it's still rock solid.

My friend also said body filler! My exhaust was banging on the underside today so checked it over and the flange gasket stuff was set rock hard, (ooer) and looks tidy as well.
