York Raceway needs your help! As the 40th anniversary of the only permanent drag strip in the North of England looms we are fund raising to develop the site in order for it to continue to be used in the decades to come.
In 2015 brake specialist Mintex showed interest in building a test track on the site at Melbourne. After meeting with the interested parties it has been agreed that this will only go ahead if the drag racing is allowed to continue. However their test track will run straight down the middle of the current drag strip and therefore the only way for York Raceway to be continue is for the race track to be resurfaced.
After 40 years of operating on nothing more than a meeting by meeting handshake between the Land Owner and Pennine Raceways, hence the lack of investment, York Raceway has now been guaranteed a minimum of 12 year lease on the site, making now the time to get the place up to scratch for both competitors and fans.
This is where you come in! We have set a target to raise 200 thousand pounds before January 2018 in order to help pay towards the modernisation of the track. This will include re-laying the entire 1/4 mile drag strip and a large portion of the shut down area to make the racing safer, and more importantly quicker and even more exciting for spectators, along with upgrading the public toilets and other amenities.
This is an amazing opportunity for York Raceway, the 40 year home of Northern Drag Racing. I'm sure everybody is aware of the closure and limitations imposed of various motorsport venues around the country, usually after pressure from local residents, councils and environmental health/planning officials. York Raceway suffers from none of these issues. The venue has no limitations on the number of events that can run, and no noise limit. Environmental Health actually placed noise sensors around the site last season and were very impressed by the level of noise produced.

We have also set up a Facebook Page - P.D.R.C Save York Raceway where you can keep up to date on how the fund raising is progressing.
Any donations are very gratefully received. So far we have raised over £30k but there's still a long way to go to make the target.
