My only query is how Red Victor managed to get a BIVA? Surely his chassis has been more than just 'boxed' etc? I don't understand how it could possibly pass legally? I think you're confused. It need a BIVA simply because he HAD done more than just box the stock chassis rails. Just like any other 'homemade' vehicle would need an IVA.

I'm not confused at all. I know 'Why' it needed a BIVA, just not sure how it passed.. Rules like radius on switches, hood scoop size etc etc that black pop has to get around, rv3 does none of those things from what I've seen.

Once (B) IVA is passed there is no restriction on modifications apart from the usual that apply to any car - so you can fit spikes on the steering wheel, barbed wire seats and sandpaper covered concrete dash pads if you so wish. Wheels, tyres, hood scoops, bonnet emblems loud exhausts and slash cut pipes etc. etc. etc. Modifications are not banned in the UK. You just need to make the car remain on the whole how it was when it was first registered.

I'm not sure why you mentioned the boxing of the chassis then, as it was entirely irrelevant to your question. That's what threw me.

Simply because it isn't just boxed. It has extra bracing mounts etc welded on which means six points lost if I understand the rules properly. Therefore in theory, it would be impossible for it to pass as the rules state zero modification of the standard chassis except boxing at best. It clearly says adding anything or removing a cross member etc means a fail.

You're getting the 8 points system and BIVA test mixed up. 8 points rule requires standard unmodified chassis or monocoque shell. For BIVA test anything goes as far as chassis or body is concerned as long as you meet the radius edge and protusion rules

^That. It was because of the chassis mods it needed a BIVA. Once through a BIVA, it's a car, do as you wish (at your own risk, you can still be nailed to the wall over dangerous protrusions, no mud guards etc etc).

Have a read of the IVA test manual. You'll get a good understanding of what the requirement are to pass, and it'll also help to understand that it's not really that daunting in 'most' cases.

Unlike Red Victor 2, which used the remains of a 1972 Vauxhall, Red Victor 3 isn't a modified Vauxhall Victor. It's a scratch built car and as such has to meet BIVA specs. It wasn't necessarily built with BIVA in mind, but it was built as a road -legal dragster so a lot of the build did pass. Andy did spend a lot of time reading the manual and changing items to make sure it would pass, but the point is that it isn't a stock or even modified factory chassis. Actually, Red Victor 2 would still need BIVA despite being more factory than RV3 as it doesn't have enough points to be classed as radically altered. It is possible to put a Pro Mod through BIVA!
