The variety - yes, but what i think what keeps people coming back is the lack of bitchiness. So many forums have members trying to prove something to each other ^^ mentions the 'know-it-alls' but they stand out as the minority The imposed 'be nice to each other' keeps things cordial for grown ups Here Here

All of the above plus you get to see the details behind builds that are way above your capabilities and feel like you can ask daft questions and have nice people answer you. Hopefully they don't mind the encouraging comments from the sidelines ! The keep it nice rule is critical, and works. It's so easy to be misconstrued on line and things escalate so quickly so something that holds things in check is important. If I don't like your car / what you have done to it then I'll read something else...

I like cars. Specifically, older cars. And more specifically, ones with powerful engines - even more so, ones with random powerful engines in them. Plus everyone here seems to be in the same boat. And the best bit? Nobody has an agenda. We all just like older cars. Perfect.

i personally thing it's facebook trying to kill off small forums and trying to get us to use their group pages Facebook have nothing to do with Photobucket's bad business practice, they have done what they have done all on their own, it was trash the day it was launched it is still trash now, I always recommended Flickr over Photobucket for that reason ... of course I may change my car image hosting recommendation in the (relatively) near future

As well as variety and attitude of this place, what it also has is members with SKILL. Need a tech question answered? RR has a member with the answer.
If all the members were forced together in a survival situation, I'm pretty sure we'd have it sussed.
Imagine the RR comunities desert island camp, would be ace! We'd make engines from rocks and fuel from coconuts.
I miss the off topic cats though.

Retro Rides is a broad church where everyone is welcome to worship at the altar of the internal combustion engine, off the wall engineering, and allied tat of interest. There is no back biting or bullying allowed due to its congregation being true gentlefolk who share good deeds and words of hope to those in mechanical need whilst sharing views of glorious mechanical devices. What's not to like?

Basically... Inspiration. Not just for builds that I dream about or plan to do, but for the sheer variety of cars and approaches, making me crave new updates for cars that in the past I would find completely indifferent. From the seemingly mundane to the most extreme combinations, there is always something different and new - while the amount of knowledge shared and the member's attitude towards builds makes other forums pale by comparison.

I came to this forum after getting tired of purists and scene kids my mk2 golf wasn't keeping to the cookie cutter norm of the VW scene and was getting grief from users on various VW forums. forum.retro-rides.org/thread/129616/1986-mk2-golf-type-19e?page=2I find that users on RR are more open minded to stuff even if they don't like or agree with the way something is done they make suggestions and don't make it a personal attack. the community on here is brilliant ask a question and it will most likely be answered in a few hours RR has some amazing builds and reads on it too I find myself going back to "Mystery Machines" because I enjoy the story's and the way they entice you to keep reading ( I cant be the only one every MM thread has at least one comment begging for updates). the variety of builds is awesome I have huge amounts of bookmarks for RR from twin engine Volvos to Aygo engine-swapped IMPS. I haven't yet made it to a RR gathering but once I am back in a retro motor and my mini human is old enough to come I will make it down.

A few years ago yes but not anymore with buying a home and the arrival of the mini human it had to go for something more safe and modern (in my wife's eyes) and couldn't afford to be running two cars

I like the enthusiasm and lack of beard-stroking / marque dogma you get with more specialist one-make forums. I like that it has a wide range of interest but is mostly about the cars that were around during my formative years not my dads, and that everyone is 'live and let live' about things. Positive, with constructive criticism, helpful not snobby "you don't wanna do it like that" types. I also like that people put up with the silly photoshops I do in lieu of actually having the cohonies to perform similar on a real car Long Live RR. It's Great™
