That is so cool! All the details and ornaments really gives it the feel of when it was new, the veranda is a real standout feature and the steps finnish it off nicely too. Id live in it! As said its a real museum piece and i bet that caravan museum in Germany would snap your arm off for it.

Nice job. Decor very 1970's  Curious though, how much of the original van is left? Shades of Triggers Broom come to mind.... Are the modern ones constructed in a similar fashion albeit with up to date materials? |

To be fair as I mentioned the chassis was shot and shall we say it had some non standard modifications during it's life so the outer walls and roof spars were all replaced (and the carpets) everything else is original from the cooker to the shower even the net curtains are the original. |

Sorry for the slight thread hijack but I managed to get a photo of this earlier, just wondered if anybody looking at this thread knew anything about them. Its actually 2 vans joined in the centre, there are A frames at both ends if its the same as the one I saw 40 years ago! It looks a bit Bluebird style, but I'm probably wrong.   |

Thats great, the kind of thing where they could have all disappeared very easily but you have created a museum worthy snapshot of the 70s.
I like to see the out of the ordinary restorations of all vehicles, more important for preserving the past than the popular models.

The sad part is this van cannot be sold to the general public due to legislation. Why not? What is wrong with it that makes it unsaleable? I'm guessing it's either something to do with fire retardency, or insulation? Presumably you could build one like this that would meet current legislation? Anyway, you've made a great job there, i must admit that part of me really wants to live in a static caravan for a while! |
