With a heavy heart I'm putting the mighty Swede up for sale. I need a car I care less about and can put the miles on.. This is one to preserve and restore.
Volvo 240 GL Saloon in metallic blue. 1989 on a G reg. 5 speed manual. B200e engine.
108k genuine miles with MOT certs to back up. Mileage will rise as she's my weekend car.
Purchased a few months ago from a collector in Derbyshire. Not much service history before my ownership but I bought this one on condition. I get stopped everywhere with people saying how lovely she is.
I spent a good while (like years!) trying to find a nice saloon. After purchasing I had the cambelt, water pump, all relevant oil seals and some hoses replaced. Also cleaned out PCV and gave a full service (oil, filters, plugs, leads etc). Cambelt kit and hoses genuine Volvo.
This is the B200e so on K-jet injection. Starts and runs great, always run on 97 or above octane fuel during my ownership, runs so much better!
All electrics work including speedo, rev counter etc. Bum warmers, electric front windows etc. Upgraded speakers all round and new Pioneer mechless head unit with custom loom stashed in the glove to original head unit can stay in situ. Stereo sounds quite good with decent 4" speakers.
Really nice, unrestored, original condition, original reg etched glass all round.
Some minor body work required. No major rust showing. Small bubble at each corner at the bottom of the rear screen. Sill ends could do with work. Drivers side sill has bubbling by door also. Rear arches very minor for a 240, stable and nothing showing on the outside. Under bonnet great, front wings are fine, boot is fine. Cleans up really nice. She presents herself very well, I'm just picky. She's mega solid underneath.. I'd rather this be in the add so I'm not trying to portray a minter. Not seen many about in this metallic blue either.
Interior is awesome, comfy and well thought out. Its a real nice place to be and makes you feel good driving her. Wear and repair to drivers seat but that's it. Lovely thick blue carpets... Mm shag pile! Headliner is the best I've ever seen and is perfect.
Mechanically I would do the following if I was to keep her.
* Replace ageing rear axle bushes
* Sort blow on exhaust
*Renew diff and gearbox oil
She drives well, stops and corners well considering shes a big barge. Disk brakes all round. Proper rear wheel drive car. Cruises fine at motorway speeds and easily keeps up with moderns. Great on long journeys and uses no oil or water. Averages around 25-28 MPG.
Can come with current Moon discs for an additional £50 or will be on original trims marked with Reg No.
I'm curse word at writing adds so if you need anything further please drop me a PM. Test drives welcome providing you have valid insurance. Better photos to follow (please note random england badges and Chrome on rear lights from PO now removed!!). I think the price is fair and will not be making any profit at full asking price, I'll be making a slight loss but would rather her sell before the winter. I may do the axle bushes etc and amend asking price accordingly. MOT till October.
Thanks for looking chaps, any feedback welcome as always. Open to P/X swaps preferably for more modern Saab/Volvo but try me.
