In retrospect I would have waited a bit longer, and found a four seater W140 with V8 or V12. How much worse can fuel consumption be? I imagine the V12 would be a financial nightmare from parts alone. The V8 is probably more sensible in that regard, but they just can't be as well balanced as straight-6 or V12s; I feel like V8s don't really go with the spirit of a LWB S-Class. In terms of engines alone, the M104 is the best you could get for a daily imo, especially since the S350 OM603 is a headache and some... There's also a fair bit of aftermarket support if you ever want to dive into performance mods for your M104 or your W126's M103. Ooohh, aftermarket support for the M104? What sort of things are we talking? I'm very happy with having a six really, lovely and smooth, plenty of oomph really. Do think I need to rebuild my boot lid, my soft close issues seem to originate there (my "keep your paws clean" handle is sometimes slow to appear, perish the thought!)

If you have the room and the enthusiasm keep one six-pot and one V8 from your marque of choice

That would be even better, but I'd need to find more room first!

I think I may need to sell the W126 though. Much as I love that vehicle (somehow it feels even more solid than the W140) Realistically I only have one parking space, so if anyone is in the market for my 300SE, let me know! Shame that you have to move the W126 on especially after you've had it for so long but I suppose needs must. Good luck whatever the outcome.

Ooohh, aftermarket support for the M104? What sort of things are we talking? Turbobandit has almost everything in stock for a 400+ hp turbo setup with either an M103 or M104, the process might be a little bumpy with a W140 due to its electronics but I'm sure it can work with a bit of research. Some of what they offer can be on the expensive side and can probably be sourced elsewhere but their turbo collectors are absolutely divine, I wouldn't go with anything else. VEMS seem to be a popular option for engine management, they're one of the cheapest in the industry and their hardware is state of the art. With an E85 map you could then have a 400hp car that's cheaper on fuel than in stock form, and with proper supporting mods the M103 and M104 can very reliably make the power on stock internals. It's an involved process regardless, but a very cool option in my book

Those gullideckel alloys are rarer ones-most w140s had the 8 hole.Seemed to see the gullideckel mostly on 500s. Also rare to have basic-ish w140 with elc fr and rear seats

These gullideckel are the early variety, love em!
The options list is a bit odd anyway, electric seats front and back, but no seat heaters?

Another small update, now running US spec front indicator units. For now I'll keep em legal, and just have a single filament amber bulb.
