1950 Ford Shoebox sedan.... El Caja De Meirda

Todays update has no pictures, but i'm sure i'll put some up once I have time to take them.

So as can be seen from previous images, the drivers side is completed, all the arch repairs done, A pillar reconstructed, inner and outer sills and floor supports fitted, bar a little bit of final joining up to the original rear inner sill which will be completed towards the end once I can get the car high enough to see what I'm welding!

Passenger side now has the arch fully completed, inner, outer and all the small rust holes cut out, so I have chopped the complete sill out under the door, inner and outer.

B pillar is good, much more solid than the drivers one, likewise the rear edge of the A pillar is good, the front edge is fooked though so going to be some interesting fabrication going on there this week. Looks like it should be more straightfoward than the first side, not least because it'll be the 2nd time i've done the work, but also because the B pillar is solid I should be able to weld the inner and outer sills together off the car, then fit it all as one piece, which means i'll also be able to carefully measure and fit the floor brace to the chassis rails before I slide the sills into place, which will be a million times easier than the order I had to do things on the drivers side.

All the braces on that side have now been 'finessed' into shape at the top to get the floor height pretty much correct (read as beaten with a hammer until they were all vaguely level as the pressings weren't all that accurate)

I have dropped the fuel tank to enable me to chop out the rotten bits of boot floor without cutting through many explosive things with a grinder so once that's done it'll be a case of going through from front to back making some floor panels to replace the parts I cut out, and then it'll be test drive time

Target finish date is now August 10th ready for Hotrod Supernats, wait and see if I make it....

At least one consolation you won't be able to buy any floor panels from Expressed Steel so what ever you get should fit better than the panels they supplied for my Corsair.

It will be very nice when its all finished.

Throw a bit of sound-deadening and a carpet down and who'd ever know.
Its fine looking.

Finished and sealed main part of boot floor today, chopped out spare wheel well as it was in the way of my exhaust run, plated over it.

Cut out the rest of the rusty bits, had to replace the double skinned part with a stud in it that forms one of the 4 tank hangers.

Finished the evening off by tidying up some of the welding on the front end and fitting the inner wings, and welding locating studs on the outer wings, so i chucked them and the bonnet on too to check for basic alignment. Looks ok.

You are not alone with the wiring. The biggest problem for me is that I can't "see" the problems when they appear and often faults aren't intuitive, unlike something mechanical. It's looking better with every update.

Isn’t it odd how different we all are? I love wiring, but the bodywork you’ve already done would have been enough to put me off taking on this project. 😃

Thought they probably would be. I reckon I'd be looking to make some kind of garage storage trolley out of those then.
