HotWire, this may be a question you can answer.
If I directly upload my pics to the Retro rides board, they are safe, right?
I do have some pics I posted here through photobucket ( in my earlier threads, before I has the pic oploading deal figured out ) But I cant upload pics directly in a Edit ( which I'd like to do to get rid of the last pics I have on Photobucket )
Am I doing something wrong?

Found this on another forum, for anyone wishing to migrate to another hosting service. Appears Photobucket aren't the only ones who don't want you linking to third-party sites (like forums) Also, don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you're hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.

I sent this yesterday and got the attached response 😂 Basically by removing all third part links to images on sites and forums, Photobucket has DESTROYED many sites and forums across the web and lost much valued information relating to those lost images Hope you robbing bastards are proud of yourselves! Hi Thank you for your feedback. If this update has impacted your experience negatively, you have our sincere apologies. Our goal is to ensure your satisfaction, and we will do all that we can to help answer any account questions you may have at this time. Thanks, I didn't say you'd get any sense out of them, just pointed out that it is possible to contact them.

To me there are two options: self host; or pick a service that is a CDN and who's business model includes paid service levels which will be used by businesses as well as casual users (so migrating my stuff to Cloudinary)

Wow @ 26,000 photos!!!! Crikey. Seriously? Wow. Seriously It's fair to say that if they go down I won't be trying to resurrect all my threads and re-linking them all to another host Looks like they just haven't got to me yet... taken from their new T&Cs screen; o Plus 50 Plan: 52 GB of Storage for $59.99 / Year. The Plus 50 Plan does not allow any image linking or 3rd party image hosting.
o Plus 100 Plan: 102 GB of Storage for $99.99 / Year. The Plus 100 Plan allows for unlimited image linking but does not allow 3rd party image hosting.
o Plus 500 Plan: 500 GB of Storage and unlimited bandwidth for $399.99 / Year. The Plus 500 Plan allows for unlimited image linking and unlimited 3rd party image hosting.

I guess I resurrect the Retro Rides image hosting solution that I was part way through. Don't do anything too drastic with your Photobucket stuff yet, I may be able to find a way to get the images into a new system and I can probably write something to fix up the image links to Photobucket to point to new system without people having to reedit their threads. Re:imgur ... That paragraph that luckyseven posted in the ToS was why I started my own image hosting project. We use it currently as an upload tool. I suspect it is mainly a get out for if they get hammered by a very popular site using them as a CDN for their own content or a site using them for their logos. However I'd rather be in control end to end. Don't panic just yet, we'll work it out. Trust me, I'm a professional.

I suppose the writing was on the wall when the suits took over and the BB markdown links disappeared the next day. Coral Cache www.coralcdn.org/ seem to genuinely give away bandwidth for free and have been around a lot longer then imgur. You still need to find a reliable host to back it up though.

Relevant user name Yeah I think the whole imgur change was why Reddit made their own image hosting thing too.

Imgur was created by a reddit user in order to create an easy way to link and post content. Its entire business was set up on hot linking. The TOS will just be there to stop people hosting entire websites on their servers. Yup it is why I used it for our image stuff. I was around when MrGrim created it ( Link for the curious). It was part of the reason I canned a replacement for Flickr that I'd been working on as Imgur gained so much traction. I'm pretty sure we'll be fine with the way we use Imgur, but it has also moved on from its original purpose to become its own community and I fear it will one day not want hotlinked images. So I'll be spending my sunny Sunday buried in Visual Studio hopefully have something together pretty quickly that can replace the Imgur uploader, and then I can expand it to suck in Photobucket accounts, will also add in a front end for management etc. Any C# developers around these parts want to help? I'll chuck it up on GitHub and I can manage the process there. If not I'll plug away at it on my train journey too and from work for the next week or so.

Get it sorted, Boss, I've accumulated another 2,000 more photos over two days at the Festival of Speed now Will probably be Wednesday before I get this live properly .. although I'm finger nails close. So I can replace the on page uploader pretty quick. Then I need to do the accounts bit of it, and then some management pages. It'll be basic as all hell to start, but I'll add features. I've got a planned features list as long as your arm, job one is to just get it working though

We mean it. I use imgur these days for nearly all of my pictures but I used to use pb. Imgur recently decided that an American forum I use was in breach of this clause and now no codes work on it, nor will even show up as links, a forum dare I say even bigger and as long-lived as this one so a lot of content. It was the content delivery network phrase that was the sticking point. So I had to use pb for all my photos that I put up on there. Point is imgur is not just threatening that, they've done it. It might bot be the best future host like you say. I do think though that, 1. I've never paid for any picture hosting, by anyone, so I don't think it's right to complain when they change the terms or ask, Ok demand, money. 2. Swearing at them, calling them things like wilk did, mouthing off around the Internet is not going to solve anything, and certainly not going to make pb think twice about what they've done.

It'd be great if our photos can be resurrected and find a new way to post images - of I'd known sooner I'd have started to migrate my photos to an alternative photo thingy.
I get that storing photos is expensive but their prices are steep for me considering the volume and usage of talking about my cortina

Sorry, I wasn't going to wait.
I got rid of my last Photobucket pics, all my albums there are completely empty.
Its not a matter of panicking, but more a matter of practicality.
I wasn't about to let myself be shaken down ( if and when that would ever happen )
And if they locked it, I'm not sure I'd still have the opportunity to delete my pics.
So I'd rather beat them to the punch.
If there is a way to edit in pics in the future, let me know. And I'll put the missing pics back in the thread(s)
I still have every pic I took on my computer. ( and backed up, just in case... )

If its any sort of help, a bloke has made a link you put infront of your IMG code from photobucket and it repairs the link and shows the photo again, he just needs a small donation to help him host, fixphotobucket.com/ is the link to his site and it gives the url you put infront of the IMG code.
