Wow, I've just caught up with this. Amazingly bad move. Is going to decimate lots of sites with linked images.
Not even sure if there is an easy fix. Obviously galleries etc. can be rehosted, but the old links will be broken still. :/

Almost certainly a last ditch scrabble for cash as they realise they have lost. That irritating image of the max'd out scale will be everywhere now.

I've managed to download all my albums from Photobucket and I've opened a Flickr account but I'm really struggling with it! It doesn't seem to provide you with img codes to embed your pictures into forums!

It doesn't seem to provide you with img codes to embed your pictures into forums! You need view the image then to go to the share button and then you can either grab the BBCode or the img tag. Not too bad on an individual basis but will be tedious if you have a lot of images.

As MiataMark said you need to go into an image, click the share button and select BBCode, are you using mobile or desktop? There are rumblings that Flickr may get some level of improvement over the next couple of years... Fingers crossed. I guess now is the time for my photo hosting rant/discussion video I've had brewing.

I'm only going to repost the pictures on my most recent thread, I guess everyone who's interested has seen all the old threads and as i have not posted up any 'how-to's then i don't see why they should stay up so I guess they should be deleted as they are next to useless without pictures.
I can't seem to find away to get rid of the old threads so can admin take care of this for me? Can someone delete every thread i've posted other than the recent viva estate one? They are just taking up room now aren't they? cheers

Interesting logic to say the least.
An image hosting website who have for many years been known as a popular FREE third party image host decide that they're going to start charging for the service, even though their site contains more bugs than the average ants nest (I apologise for the Americanism, but it works in context) and popups adverts appearing like seagulls around a man with a bag of chips on Scarborough sea front.
$399? Will you take a cheque?

Not too bad on an individual basis but will be tedious if you have a lot of images. That's exactly what pisses me off with Flickr. It takes absolutely forever to do anything on there. I set up an account and used it once, shattered a few teeth with frustration and never logged on again. Life's too short My Photobucket seems to still work, I'm praying my lesser fees I've been on for years are enough to keep them up. Or maybe there's a demand for $400 in the cyber-post and all 26,000 of my photos are about to get nuked into the ether. That would really suck...

I just deleted most of the pics that I had uploaded on Photobucket.
Most of those were linked to forums that went belly up, and ones I don't go to much anymore.
So if they decide to lower the boom on me, they don't have much to hold me with...

.....all 26,000 of my photos are about to get nuked into the ether. That would really suck... Wow @ 26,000 photos!!!! Crikey. Seiously? Wow. I'm downloading mine now and will then close account. Ive been using Postimage for the last few years. Its simple and works well. They have been slowly but surely making it better and seem to be a very friendly, up front lot. But after this PB carry on creating a big pita I decided to email Postimage and asked what they think of the future ie; will they start charging and if so how much etc. Happy to pay them as the system works well but cant afford much.

It's getting very frustrating very quickly!

So Flickr is problematic on mobile devices? How about imgur? I pretty much only use mobile these days so I need something that works seamlessly on an iPhone.

FWIW if you are getting the '3rd party hosting 100%' ransom note in place of your image, you can still access that image and download it by right clicking on the '3rd party hosting 100%' ransom note, then click on 'open image in new tab' and you will then be able to view the blocked image in a new tab and download it. Not much use for recovering 1000's of images but useful to recover a few.

Your account hasn't disappeared, just the third party links. I spent last night downloading 60 albums with 8Gb of photos from PB - you can download (copy) a complete album at a time into a zip file. It took ages because it kept hanging (probably the ad blocker fighting PB) and I did it on the laptop because it just fell over on the iPad (app or website). I'm not closing my account yet as things may change but I will be going through my posts on various forums to relink where possible or relevant.
A timely reminder that you get what you pay for?

I don't have a mobile device, so I don't know whether this will work, but having tried a few hosting sites, including Flickr, I have found Postimage seems to be very simple and user-friendly.

A timely reminder that you get what you pay for? it's a pity they didn't make that clear before they encouraged everyone to upload their content then held it to ransom.

Rumour starting that Flickr have a similar works in progress... though hard to imagine them doing a worse job of implementing pay-for-hosting. However, it may be worth all those hordes moving from PB to Flickr giving it a week (or month) or two to settle. It'd be really annoying to sort all your photos onto a new host only to have to go through this all over again
Or maybe just accept the Internet is dead and do nothing but Facebook photos of your lunch that vanish into the past in a week flat and tweet gibberish as whatever you can fit into 140 characters. It's what THEY want you to do...

Thing is I have been paying, because I don't expect a half decent service without ads for free. Only $29.99 a year though. At approx £20 last time I paid (before the exchange rate took a dump), it was cheap enough To just pay it to make the problem go away. Any more than that and I may as well just buy some hosting and DIY it.

Just took 3hrs to download my 'main' build thread file for my Model A, about 1300 pics. I just think it's PBs curse word servers tbh. Note also any vids or gifs have to be done separately, it doesn't put them in the zip file.
Only another 7j or so to go, and I've just binned about 5k I can't be arsed with.
