Haven't been on in a while... thanks for the comments everyone!
As evidenced above by bugjam (nice to meet you too bud!), I made it to RRG and even made it home with no troubles - quite an experience to drive this thing around the narrow lanes near Shelsley! Before I went I switched out the oil filter for a Wix item as Paul Y suggested, just in case. Cold starting turned out to be that the auto-choke just doesn't work! If I hold the choke flap down with a magnet pick-up tool thing then it starts fine, then I take the magnet off after 10 seconds and let it warm up for 10 mins and it's fine. Oh and there's definitely some sediment being washed through from the fuel tank, I've gone through 3 cheapy in-line filters so far, but it's getting better.
With all that said, I've decided to try and sell the Galaxie after a pretty short ownership. I hardly drive it because it's so big and unwieldy and I've got too many other cars, and I really don't want to leave it outside over winter, so it's a case of either get it stored away somewhere or sell it. To be honest, I haven't really fallen in love with the car for whatever reason, so I'm not really fussed if I keep it or not. I think it's an incredibly cool piece of motoring history, but it doesn't really do much for me for some reason. It really needs the rear quarter panels replacing, so if it doesn't sell for enough (it's on ebay right now) then I'll pay to get it dry stored over winter and then replace the quarters next year.
Fingers crossed she goes to a good home and I get most of my money back for some other silly car in the future!
