Quick question, has anybody actually checked the normal operating of a pinto? I'm reading slightly over halfway on the gauge and going up a bit when stuck in traffic. I checked when it's at it's normal running temp and my IR thermometer is saying 99 degrees. It's not boiled or lost water, still running a mechanical fan. Am I worrying over nothing?

Cast iron lump so will run bit hotter than say an alloy block
Just over halfway is pretty much the norm too on a pinto As long as it ain't boiling over and using water your fine

id wait until this hot spell is over . With the ambient temp at 30 deg + lately most cars (even my 17 plate kuga) are running hot
99 deg is ok as its pressurised to roughly 7/8 psi anyhoo so it wont actually boil till at least 120 (on the gauge) i cant see it being a problem if it s not boiling up in traffic with the fan turnin
it depends on lots of thing really as youll prob know all ready ie is the rad silted up a lil with age 2 is the thermostate ok 3 water pump ok 4 fan belt tight that sort of thing ALSO flick the heater on full if the temp goes down a lil you now its circulating i d roll it lol

it should run at the thermostat temp so if 88 deg stat expect to see 90 on the gauge/gun, many people fit the pinto t/stat the wrong way round that leads to temperature issues.
