Was at the Preston Park show today and there were some Vauxhalls I appreciated while there, like this Cresta on Torque Thrusts. This delicious yellow Victor. Unfortunately my camera (which is dying) ate the other shot so this is all I have. It really was lovely. Viva sportwagon, likely of interest to yoeddynzA Viva saloon. Unfortunately any pictures of other Vauxhalls I saw were eaten by my elderly camera.

I've got these two. I've had a few others, two more 24v GSis, a Carlton 2.6CDX estate and an Astra estate, C reg with Cav SRi engine.

I can remember trying to keep up with a 24V Senator on the local by-pass, I was in a Sierra XR4i with a few go faster bits and it was far from a slow car, however, when that Senator opened the taps in front of me there was no chance! I had a mk3 Cav CDi for a while which went well and was a lovely thing to drive but it understeered like a curse word! And this is an observation not a criticism but I've always thought the Carlton GSi's look very under-wheeled.

And this is an observation not a criticism but I've always thought the Carlton GSi's look very under-wheeled. I'd agree in a way, especially the more boring later style wheels that my red car has. Part of the probelm with them is that the wheels are tucked up under those flat top rear arches and there is almost no room to play with to move them outwards so they always have a bit of the Commer van effect I think.

Conversely, the body:wheel ratio on the Carlton GSi is one of my favourite bits about them.

Sportspack Minilights? Very unexpected. The only experience I have of Vauxhalls was my tired shuvit. I like the way they look.

I got a soft spot for Poxhauls. My favourite was my Astra MKII SRi with the F16/5C close ratio box, and non power steering. Unfeasibly fast and easy to keep on the boil, and the manual steering made the best of a bad job in the corners. Debadged and with the pinstripes removed from the bumpers it was a bit of a sleeper.
I then replaced with a MKIII SRi 5 door, which was pleasant enough but as softmas the MKII was hard. I then went all family man and got a MKI Carlton facelift, which was sublimely comfortable.
I do miss the MKII in particular though.

I do love a good a good 80s and 90s Vauxhall, can't say anything before the 80s or after the 90s really does it for me... Here is my kinda but not yet properly retro 'chav mobile' Only around 30 GSi left on the road so part of quite a small club

having owned vauxhalls since i had my licence (1993 eek) and astra gte 16 valves since 1999, some of my biggest hero cars and drivers... john cleland, 16v GTE which bagged his first british touring car title. John welch in his xtrac astra in 1988 british rally cross erwin weber in the kadett rallye 4x4, 1986 paris dakar. This is actually the same car john welch is in above, but he developed and used in british rally cross 1987-1989 Malcolm wilson and Ian grindrod, pictured here at 1988 scottish rally

Viva HC Estate with custom droopsnoot nose - seemingly off a Firenza but adapted for six headlights No, no, no. That's "Silver Bullet", a one-off styling exercise by Vauxhall Motors intended to form the next generation of the HP Firenza project. It had a five-speed box (unusual for the time), fuel injection, leather interior and six headlights. It was the personal transport of Wayne Cherry for a while, and is a regular at shows. Although technically you're right that it's a nosecone from a Firenza that's been adapted, but by VM themselves. And have a snoot Imgp5072a by Mike Edwards, on Flickr
