lost my car keys today The car is locked with the alarm on. I have 2 spare keys i got when i bought the car a few years ago. however i've never used them and the batteries are dead. does anyone know if i can unlock the doors with the spare keys and start it up without the alarm going mental. or is there a better way of getting back into it. I'm ok for transport tomorrow, but will need it by wednesday.

The spare will get you into it, but the alarm will still be going nuts (had to pick my daughter up from school once doing this) however the key was in the ignition just long enough to hold enough charge to resync it to the car, and for me to be able to lock and unlock it on the remote. If you Google "e39 key sync" give it a whirl, if it works it will save you 140 at main dealer for a new key.

FWIW give BMW Keys a try. The key will look resealed but he is half of the price of BMW.
That said BMW's price looks bargainous compared to what Ford charge for a key ; £220 after recoding.

When I had my e39, the keys had a habit of dying, I think I killed 4, not a cheap option, but beware, BMW only make 10 keys for the car, once all those are used up, it's a new lock set, don't even think about asking the price

Atmo V8 Power . No slicks , No gas + No bits missing . Doing it in style. Austin A35van, very different------- but still doing it in style, going to be a funmoble

Don't the keys charge when they're in the ignition?

Only so many cycles a battery can take though and they're a sealed unit, though there are services that will split the key to change the battery.
