My father-in-law is selling his Lexus LS400 which he's owned for for at least the last 15 years. It's not getting the use it needs and as he has a company vehicle that racks up the miles it's surplus to requirements. It's only done 700-odd miles since last August. It is not perfect and has a short MOT so this will be an honest advert. He is the 2nd owner. I actually had this as my wedding car!
It was registered in August 1996, 100k miles (+ some loose change) and has been regularly serviced when required - at the main dealers up until about 7 years ago and at an independent garage since then.
It's pearlescent white and has all the usual Lexus refinements with a grey leather interior. Alloys were refurbished about 9 years ago and are presentable but may need redoing as there is some bubbling in places. The engine runs beautifully and (unsurprisingly for a 4-litre Lexus) pulls like a train when given some beans. I am unsure of when the cambelt was last done but knowing my father-in-law he won't have skimped on it. Tyres are budget brand but have 7mm of tread on the front and 6mm at the rear.
Known faults:
The central locking on the OSR door does not work properly. When driving there is a slight rattle from that door so it may be something as simple as having to reconnect a rod.
The radio illumination does not work at night.
The heated seats do not work although this may be down to a fuse. It has not been checked as to why so, like the rear door, it may be a really simple fix.
The boot release will not work on the key - it will only work on the button inside the car.
The bonnet rams are failing and do not hold the bonnet up so will need replacing. Or use a stick
There are minor blemishes on the bodywork - a stone chip on the bonnet has gone rusty, there's some star crazing on the rear bumper, the rear bumper is missing a trim insert, there's some rusty bits below the window line on the NSR door and some minor lacquer issues on the rear roof by theNSR pillar (I tried to get a picture but it wouldn't show well).
The exhaust is blowing. The garage apparently say it is right next to the flange on the cat. I have not seen it so can't comment on its condition. However, with some judicious patching it'll probably go again.
There was an advisory on the previous MOT about rust near a suspension mount. Again I have not seen this but from what I understand it was not structural - only surface rust - being an MOT they had to mention it as an advisory.
The MOT is short - it expires on August 7th.
Minor faults aside this is a LOT of car for the money. Use it as an engine donor, or fix the faults and drive it around to your heart's content. It really is a pleasant car. Asking price is £595 or near offer. If I had the space I'd have it for myself. Sadly, I don't so it is up for sale. Car is located in Theberton, just down the road from Leiston in Suffolk.
Please contact Steve Coulter on 07879 628504 before 8pm or during business hours on 01728 831849 and ask for Steve - he's the boss. If not available leave him a message. Please don't PM me as it's not my car.
