BMW-Series-3-E36-Coupe-Saloon-Coilover-ADJUSTABLE-SUSPENSION-Lowering-KIT-I'm pretty sure I won't be putting this on the wagon because it's cheap and you get what you pay for but what is the deal with it? Has anyone had a go of it? How long did it last? The E36 I have recommissioned needs some shocks and it's very boaty but more importantly it needs to achieve around 7 street cred points as I'm experiencing 1 road rage incident a day, mainly with lorries and Vauxhall Diesel estates. I wasn't prepared to get involved in this world and it has taken me by complete surprise. This is unacceptable and after driving my other 2 machines without any road rage incidents ever, I'm not used to this level of abuse on the road. Next I fear that a cyclist is going to knock on the window at the lights and offer me out. I may need to remove the 318 badge as I suspect it's inviting neanderthals to come sniff my rear end for a challenge. I may also need to shave my head again for extra hardness. I want to keep it standard looking and keep my hair but it needs help to hang bends properly so I'm looking for a 30/20 drop and I could stick my style 5's on but this is a commuting train and the standard tyres are nice and cheap for premium rubber, although I have my eyes on another set of rims. What is a good kit for an E36? Is it illegal to fit an oil discharge contraption to eradicate tail gators at 75mph?

I did a cheap eBay suspension job on my old Volvo v40, was ok for 6months and totally knackered by 12. Wasn't worth the hassle putting it on as it totally spoilt the car.

I have a cheapy ebay coilover kit on my e36 Coupe (FK AK Streets I think, although I couldn't swear to it). I bought them used along with cheapo Chinese solid topmounts. I've done almost 40,000 miles since fitting them without any bother. I'd definitely have another set. The ride is firm and a bit crashy but if you want refinement I'd be looking at spending 4 or 5 times what these cost!

you don't need cheap coilovers for a 20/30 drop, bilsteins and some eibach springs will do the trick.
stick the style 5's on, they roll nicely on a 17", bung some premium tyres on and you'll get 15-20k out of them in my experience.

I agree fully. They'll outlive the vast majority of coilovers. But I also suspect they are beyond what the OP is willing to pay.

Although expensive the Birds B3 suspension set up has transformed my E91LCI m-sport from crashy and harsh ride to smooth and confidence inspiring. It consists of bespoke springs and Bilstein shocks valved to Birds' spec. It can be done in stages with springs and shocks in each step. Lowers my E91 approx. 15-20mm which is a pain on Norwegian roads, but the transformed ride is well worth it.

The eibach/ bilsteins have been mentioned a few times, I will spend a fair bit on the suspension to make the car suit the commute but wondered why those coilies were so cheap is all. I've got over 20k miles out of Dunlop's on the style 5's bolted to the 635 but serious camber issues can cause premature wear, just! I found the maxx versions rubber degrades quite quickly though. I took a punt at the cooper tyres, they'll probably work for the E36 commuting horse but we're too non grippy for the 635, even in the dry.

If it's harsh or doesn't last too long, who cares? If the Coopers weren't great on the 635i I doubt they'll be any good on the E36 . I am still shocked at the difference between the Falkens and the Michelins on my M3. The worst thing is despite the cost (Google how much 225/40R19s are ) I'd have saved my rims and a refurb ; the Falkens had zero rim protection ; not too handy in a daily driven car with not the best of visibility. Remember it has M mirrors and a back that cannot be gauged from inside.
