Mk3 mondeos fitted with the factory Sony head unit (the one with the on/off button in the middle) when changing from 2nd gear to 3rd or 4th to 3rd my hand would easily hit the on/off button on the stereo, usually when playing a good song, which was quite annoying to say the least. I agree, there definately needs to be more space between the gearstick and stereo on a mk3 Mondeo.

I can't stand the offset number plate on the new Discovery On a related topic what about the Rover 75. Designed with an odd shaped reg plate recess, which was all well and good when they had a plate made to fit as some did but when it has a standard shaped Brit reg plate it looks a bit carp. Compared to- What about when a standard plate gets stuck over the top of the original plate? I see this a lot on X-type Jags too!

When instrument faces are fixed with slotted screws, and the slots are not in the same orientation. I'm fine with a lot of details. But this... Makes me mad! Such lack of attention... HNNGH! Exposed screws in general in interiors!

The front indicators on my VW Bora. They're located right next to the grill and not on the outside of the headlamp unit. It does my nut in!

Head lining sagging issues on Jaguars for 30 years! Always sold as expensive executive saloons with strong smooth engines, fine chassis and sumptuous leather and wood interiors. All lovely - yet how is it that Jaguar couldn't seem to build a car without head lining sagging problems once the car was a few years old?

1stly, the mk3 focus (I think it is), the zetec s 1.8 petrol model, has the ST style bodykit however the exhaust tip is an afterthought, instead of coming out under the bumper it is turned down and half covered by the bumper!
2nd point, mk6 golf, tucks it's wipers away under the bonnet, nice bit of Aero, but the motor locks them in place when the key is out so when washing or changing the blades you have a fight with them unless you know about the secret handshake that does a half wipe!
3rd, micro rear wipers, spoils a good rear end! But then there are the people you see driving around with the wiper pointing down or sat on the paintwork, it's clearly undone itself and they can't be bothered to sort it!

Compared to- Ditto the S-Type. Made worse by me being too tight to fork out 20-odd quid for a special plate. Whilst we're on the subject of little details - yellow brake calipers. Mine aren't yellow, and taste is a very personal thing, but they wind me up something chronic: 1. It's a brake caliper. It gets covered in black **** from your brakes. Painting it yellow makes that really obvious. 2. It looks like there's an empty packet of Quavers stuck in the wheel. 3. It's often on cars that are blue, or grey, or silver, so it doesn't even match. Other colours don't bother me at all for some reason that I can't explain. I realise that i'm the irrational one. If you have yellow calipers, I bear you no ill will. It's your car and if it makes you happy it's none of my business.

What I do mind is the non-adjustable windscreen washer nozzles, which mean when you squirt and the wipers start, there's no water in the bottom corners of the screen, so it never gets washed.

LED indicators that flow to one side rather than just flashing. Works on a Mustang, Starting to get on my wick now that every leased German autobahn wannabe has them.. The positive side to this is that at least Audi drivers are bothering to indicate now, rather than expecting us all to be psychic.

Fake exhaust tips built into bumpers.. Especially when you can see a pea-shooter tailpipe sat behind it.

As greensprout says - those Fake plasti-chrome exhaust tips - especially those triangular ones on Civics — Agh!
Actually - Fake stuff in general.
Fake 'intake' grill blanks on pov-specs with no foglights. There's no holes. No fooling anyone.
Fake plastic wheel-trims that don't really look like alloys. Yes I can see the the black steelies underneath.
Fake rear splitters. Your ST fiesta is not an F1 car
Fake boot-lid spoilers on FWD cars - Yeah - really need that downforce to keep that feisty rear axle in check
Fake 'glass' quarter-lights after the c-pillar. (like on Pug 208) - I can see it's just black plastic.
Funny how it all revolves around cheapo platic bits stuck on unnecessarily isn't it?

VAG cars from MK4 Golf era onwards remote central locking:
Click unlock once - drivers door unlocks, click twice all doors unlock. Don't open the door for 30s, all doors lock.
Now add 15 years of remote fob wear & tear, less than optimal battery and kids / shopping / 2"x4" etc etc. I get it wrong 90% of the time, have ended up double clicking it all the time even when it's only me - which defeats the purpose of the function.
Now we have a new challenge with the wifes Altea: global locks over 10mph. Pull up at destination, let her out, pull up to parking spot. She cant open the back doors to get kids out until I take the key out of the ignition.
I'm sure this is useful to someone, somewhere, once, probably, but why does it have to be default ON and why to I need full fat version of VAGCOM diagnostics to disable it?

big brother/nanny state in cars... my mums smart auto-deadlocks you in , does this "smart car" not realise that she doesn't live in Johannesburg and isn't going to get car-jacked?!! it takes two pulls on the handle or a push of a button on the dash to get you out of the damn thing. then there is the auto default "eco stop start b/s" button....grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Nissan Almera gti (3 door) when tilt and sliding the drivers seat forward to allow passengers to sit in the back, the drivers seat doesn't go back to the original position and you have to reposition the seat every time you do this.

I could probably think of loads of these! Most relate to modern cars, because I think in this day and age there's no excuse for it. The Volvo rear doors is a good one. Always troubled me. Related to that - estate versions of cars that were clearly never meant to be: Thinking about it, I think this is no different to the Volvo 240, it was just much less obvious because of the straight body lines!

Rear fog lights on the 407 estate: Look like they were added on at Halfords afterwards. Although it's nothing compared to the abomination that is the rest of the car!

It's a very 70s/Leyland thing but mad to see it on more recent (ish) cars too. I'd love to have been in one of those meetings where the designer holds up these magnificent estate concepts and a bean-counter at the back of the room makes a small throat-clearing cough... Then says the immortal words: "There's no budget for bespoke rear passenger doors on the wagon version..."
