Now part 2:
A friend who recently got his datsun 120 y on the road spotted an electric sunroof that I've had stashed for years and said it would be amazing for a caravan roof, and maybe I should make another, then he could have the old one. I declined, but said he (we) should make another, but learn from the first one.
Lesson 1: Yes, the Lino seemed like a cheap and easy plan, it looks great, easy to put on, but it goes sticky and discoloured in sunlight
Lesson 2: the more storage and stuff you have, the more weight!
Lesson 3: if you have a tiny car with no boot space, it all has to go in the trailer!
Now, as he has a 120y coupe, number 1 and 2 really don't apply, so just the Lino to deal with, so for twice the Lino cost he could have aluminium!

Expanding glue to stick the aluminium......that stuff is evil, it sticks anything to anything, and it doesn't come off your hands!







That's it so far, the sunroof fits a treat, the door is now shortened and alloy clad so I will try to update as we progress.

More done this evening......the chassis cut and welded up. 30x30 angle for the main bit, scaffold tube for the bar and Angle from an old bed base to triangulate the front. This is mainly to mount a battery box onto to power lights and the electric sunroof 😂😂

More done last night. We got it rolled over and the casters taken off, stapled some plastic to the bottom of the plywood and offered the chassis up. A few notches on the front to clear the a frame and then it was screwed on. The sides were made with timber strips along the base to allow screws to go through the chassis and into it, and then some dome bolts along the middle. Temporary wheels fitted until the mini wheels get sorted. The aluminium sides overlap the angle chassis and will be pop riveted. It's super strong ( and stable😫)
We couldn't resist fitting the rear lights!

Sunroof is a winner for sure.

As mentioned, the more you add, the heavier they get.

I love the one I built, but would build another as well.

Actually have had the idea in my head to make a detachable body and chassis, so that one could add it to the back of the truck or tow behind something like the Prozac Berlingo.
