Chinese/ Thai bikes can be ok, think of them like a old British bike, they want a damn good proper pdi when new then sorting out again at the 500 mile service. After that they need regular fettling.

I had all that plus class 2 and pcv until I had to renue my licence and I lost the lot..
Basically car van 7.5 ton and 12 ton gross thats it..
No bikes passenger vehicles steam rollers ..

p.s. certain aprilias were 33hp de-restricted. From what I remember the unrestricted versions weren't always privatised enough to reach the 33hp mark. Some were far below this but I can't seem to remember why off the top of my head. I had one many years ago and ploughed tonnes of money into it before I realised buying something half decent would provide the best bang for buck. Sorry for the off topic. It seems as though everyone has been spot on with the advice so my only input is to buy a bike! They're great. |

p.s. certain aprilias were 33hp de-restricted. From what I remember the unrestricted versions weren't always privatised enough to reach the 33hp mark. If you've not riden a bike before then I'd recommend doing your CBT regardless. It's a days work and will prove invaluable to you.
As a motorcyclist, you have to ride round with eyes in the back of your head and spider-sense engaged. Today it's all about defensive riding and hazard awareness.
I hung up my leathers 10 years ago due to the complete lack of enjoyment I was getting from people trying to kill me all the time.

Just a bit of advice I'm a pre1997 license holder used to run with l plates at 16-17 years old then sat direct access test in 2001 and had to do cbt training before I was allowed on road to learn for test. This goes for anyone any age no cbt no drive that's it no driving 50cc mopeds with passenger on back and no l plates as my cousin did with his Honda mt5 so jealous at time because he passed his car test on his 17th birthday. Instructor told me this was being abused at the time (2001) and people were being prosecuted cheers

Actually there's also an earlier date that if you had your provisional car/ bike license before then you may ride upto a 125 on L plates for an unlimited period without having to do your CBT.
I know as I fell into this category, still had to do CBT before taking my full test though.

Did you query it with the DVLA? They've been good at randomly removing towing categories on renewal at 70 but are reinstating them once you complain. Always take a copy of anything you send to them. |

I took my bike test in '96 did the training and CBT in '95 BUT I applied for my provisional licence at the earliest date I possibly could so it would have been either '88 or '89, passed my car licence in '91. |

A bit late to this thread, but my 125cc bike was a Honda Varadero which looks like a big bike. Useful because car drivers don't tend to intimidate you as much as if you're on a scooter. It would stagger its way to 75mph if you crouched over the tank and had your feet on the rear pegs but 60mph was easy. Probably no different to a 1200cc Beetle to be honest.
If you buy a decent 125 bike while you're learning for your big bike test, you can probably sell it for the same money as you paid for it. There's a ready market for them all the time.
