Anyone know what specific things there are to look for to ensure it is a genuine car?
I believe the rear valance is shorter, so shows more of the spare wheel well, and there is no fuel cut-off inertia switch in the spare wheel well? Also something about the ECU and the other control box bulkhead mounting?

They're pretty much an XR3i with ABS and a turbo and bigger drums on the back.

Cheers, mate. Do you know of anything else specific, though? I know they don't differ as much as a mk3.

Aside from a VIN check. The KEJetronic metering unit is a lot bigger than the rest of the i models.

If it was a Series 1 I could tell you how to spot a ringer from a kosher car unless someone has taken the time to get around it; I saw a few ringers and there is enough information out there to even point out a ringer from a good car.
I think for the above it's what has been said regarding the valance etc.
