My mate has a absolutely mint low mileage Toyota Yaris..
Yes its a bit older in age than you're asking for but read the following..
54 plate 5 Dr Bodywork is absolutely mint 40k miles Genuine with I believe FSH. 1 Previous owner to him Light Blue in colour MOT (don't know how long though) Driven almost daily so no issues with anything ceasing.
it's within your BUDGET too. £1200. No offers
Only downside for viewing is... Its up here in West Yokshire. Buy the car and have a day out with the spare cash.
Let us know your thoughts.
Regards

Kind regards

Many thanks for the advice. All appreciated. I did mention the C1 and Aygo as they are related, but he felt they were too small. He's quite tall. I'll enquire about the yaris in West Yorkshire

We might be having a Fiat Panda in, which meets all of your criteria I think apart from being a little over 10 years old (05 reg I think). Is that something that may be of interest? You are pretty local.
All the best with your search either way.

Appreciated Strada. I did consider a Panda very local to me but after a previous (very bad) experience of Fiat, I'll pass.
After getting quotes, seems Yaris and Corsa fair well. Fiestas seem extortionate!
Having had a Yaris before (wife's first new car many years ago), these seem to be a favourite, although the Corsa has more street cred (in his eye's)!
Just like to ad that the Alto seems a bargain but he's not keen on it. Beggars can't be ch .............

Just going through the same with my lads, I got the eldest a 1.0 Arosa S, he's 6' 4" and loves it, looking for another now for the youngest as he starts learning next month. Good thing is they're considered as "scene" as well.Insurance for him was £1293 but that was with two non fault motorbike accidents (hit up the back whilst stationary both times). You can get a really nice one well within budget.

I buy and sell Corsa c with head gasket of timing chain issues and most of the people who buy the 1.0 models have just passed their tests just keep away from the easytronic (semi autos) manuals or normal autos are fine

A nice Aygo slipped through my fingers locally last week. Slightly rough cosmetically but mechanically sound.
Just dithered too much!

We had a corsa c for my other lad who went for a 1.2 as he felt the 1.0 was underwhelming

Yes they are i bit gutless but ok for a first car and low running costs and if looked after using the right engine oil, they also do a 1.4 chain driven enging

Yeah I was reading an article about them in an issue of car mechanics and they sounded like ideal for a first car.. There is also a lightly modded one near me (debadged/mild drop) which looks surprisingly good!

Right, narrowed down to Yaris, Corsa, Fiesta and Polo.
If anyone is selling or knows of anyone (friends or family) that will sell their car to my son, as if it was their own child, please shout.
Thanks
