HI, I'm looking for some brake wisdom! . .
I'm restoring an old 1970's van and it's missing one. at some stage a previous owner must have thought it would be alright to chuck it away and had no problem with the resulting rear wheel sliding chaos that ensues every time i touch the pedal.
Finding one for sale seems to be pretty much impossible or ridiculously expensive. So i'm wondering if i can use one from something else?
obviously i'd have to fabricate new mountings/lines etc but that's no problem, the bit i'm unsure about is how unique to a vehicle they are?
if i were to find a van of a similar weight and use one from that would it have the same effect?
The van has a top speed of about 45mph so high speeds aren't going to be a problem, I'd just like to be able to brake safely without sliding the back wheels.
any help/advice is hugely appreciated!
