An elderly neighbour of mine has this Daimler Sovereign sitting in his garage since the head gasket failed in 1990, an attempt was made to repair it at the time but a head stud snapped and was difficult to access to remove, and that it how it remained till now. In the time it sat there the garage has fallen apart around it, many generations of foxes have lived in the garage and the rubbish piled up. The car is in a sorry state and due to one reason or another he needs to clear the garage. The family planned to have it taken away for scrap but I would hate to see it just go to a crusher, I am sure it must be use to someone in the community, idealy I would break it up and sell the parts but there is not time it needs to be gone in the next month or so. We opened it up yesterday for the first time goodness knows how many years and I took the pictures below. So is it worth anything is there any interest? access is limited so cannot give you much detail on the condition, at first glance the rust does not look to bad but the bottoms of the wings and doors look pretty bad. The wheel arches are fine, as are the tops of the wings, bonnet, roof A, B, and C pillars. We will attempt to clear the garage and gain better access in the next week then I will get some more pictures. So what is it worth?

It looks restorable and probably should be saved. I've seen much more rotten Jags / Daimlers resurrected. The fact it's been kept under cover for such a long time has slowed the body rot which doesn't look too bad.
It's not immensely valuable unfortunately, I'd put a value of around £800.00 on it as is. It would possibly break for two or three times that amount if you had the time, space & inclination. Fixed up, driving nicely, MOT'd with paint job, new chrome, etc. it would be worth £5K to £8K.
The scrappy is going to pay £100-£200 for it?
Try to get better pics, pop it on ebay as a 10 day auction. If he's lucky enough to get a couple of bidders fighting over it I could see the value easily getting above £1K.

Thats good to learn, thank you. Once out of the garage we can have a look underneath, in the boot and under the carpets etc and get more pictures. To know there is some potential value and that it just might go to a good home is encouragement enough for us to drag it out the garage for a clean.

If it hasn't moved in 20 years handbrake might be seized on, tyres deflated, etc. you may need to tow it out. I hope it does find a new home with an enthusiast, the S2's will be rare one day!

I cleaned off some of the muck that built up over the last 27 years, it has actually been in there since 1990 give or take a few months. The tax disc in the screen expired in 1990, it was a daily driver up till the head gasket failure. I cleaned it best I can for now in the garage because once it is pulled out I don't think it will go back in and the neighbour needs access to his garage on the shared driveway. So a few buckets of water later and some air in the tyres, the old car groaned as the air went into the tyres and and it sat up to its correct height and posture.
The condition is pretty much as already described and I don't think it is to bad for a 1977 car. The worst area is the O/S/F this area has been exposed to the weather and suffered the most see first 2 pictures, the pictures below start O/S/F to the rear and round to the N/S/F, some corrosion to the bottoms of the doors and the rear wheel arches do have some rust. The paint has bubbled on the top of the O/S/F wing, there is likely to be some damage to the vinyl roof at the back where the bonnet is sitting, there is damage across the front grill. Sills look good, boot, bonnet, interior all look very good, cant see any corrosion on the car from the tops of the wheel arches up. The engine has been protected by oil on all the important bits, all the parts removed are in the car or boot. The mileage is 92,837.
Compass, if you will pay £800 then the car is yours, other wise we will refit the bonnet get some more pictures and do as suggested by MkX and try ebay. It is complete with a lot of good parts.

↑ ↑ compass With a better view on the interior it looks better than I thought it was and better than it should. There's a lot to do but I think it's a fair price & a worthwhile project.

The doors and windows were closed all those years so the interior is pretty much as it was when parked up in 1990, its not even dusty. Clear the odds and ends out and 30 minutes with some interior cleaner and it would be perfect. We have the keys and a replacement registration document has been applied for. Thanks again for your advice and encouragement MkX

Hi, As you're still in the 'What's it Worth' section I'd suggest you'd probably benefit from posting link / pics in ebay and elsewhere (for sale) section. Compass hasn't been on the site since 11th May, hence the lack of response. Best of luck with the sale!

Well it seems that it was worth exactly £696.00, unfortunately no last minute bidding battle. Not what i'd hoped it might fetch but still about £500.00 more than a run-of-the-mill scrap dealer would have paid for it. Let's hope it's going to someone who's going to pamper the old girl!

We are really happy with that. The good news is the new owner plans to restore the Daimler, subject to a full inspection so fingers crossed it is not to far gone underneath. I got a quick picture or two once out the garage, the brakes were fine once we got it to move and free the pads from the discs even had to put it park to stop it rolling back. It was a bit sad for the owner to see it go and I forgot how long, low and sleek these cars are once it was out in the road. I want one now, V12 Coupe please.

Couple of pictures, not very good taken in a rush. Underneath all the muck the back of the car is quite solid and needs little work
