I may be loosing the accommodation that my "first car" has been slumbering away in for nearly 30 years. its a 1971 clubman saloon that is probably best described as requiring extensive restoration but is pretty much complete (though stripped) and obviously the v5 is in my name. I have neither any idea of value or current pictures but this is from around the time that I took it off the road. any ideas where I should pitch it price-wise should I need to move it on in a hurry?

1- Don't if you have kept it that long , why ? Because you want to drive it again .
2- i suppose it will go for at least a grand on ebay .
3- Cornwall is full of farms , can't you find it another home ?

3. true...also full of barns full of other cars that may never see the road again too! (plus I don't see the point in paying to store stuff)
I had thought that it may become a father and son project for junior and myself but I doubt that it would actually happen.

Hard to tell without pics but I think £1K is probably optimistic.
There are several on ebay needing work in the £500-£900 range, obviously being keen to sell means you'd reduce the price.

Really it depends on condition - Clubmans are pretty popular right now, so a solid shell with all the pieces there that just needs putting back together with a few little wear items that could do with sorting could be worth £1500+, even more if it's a 1275gt. The fact yours is an early one is a help too.
However, there's no shortage of rotten unfinished projects that need lots of welding and replacement parts. Generally, they can range from £300-1000, but again, this is very dependant on condition and spec.

If I was in your place I'd try hard to keep it. If you've examined all options and this really isn't practical the best return might be in breaking the car?

I don't reeeealy want to get rid , I am a sentimental old fool but it may possibly come to it. I could probably stash it under a tarp fairly short term which would be no worse than the leaky old shed it currently resides in (my other garage is groaning with "stuff" too!) . my thought process at the moment was just to try and gauge value to assist in my decision making process. I just wouldn't want to see it scrapped/broken/grass-tracked though.

always a bit of luck involved when selling e.g. right person right sale area. may be worth contacting the mini owners club.they will have far better realistic idea of value. needing restoration or extensive restoration are big differentials. e.g. just repaint refit parts etc .extensive can e ..replacing panel(s) welding. full mechanical stripping ( does engine crank over ? ) new interior parts. bearing in mind most replaceable parts will need that e.g. tyres.hoses, perishable rubber. fluids etc so can get expensive to refurb. that has mat impact on value a snot all want a full 2-3 year project and a thick wallet.
the values suggested form £500-1000 would seem to be in ball park for most cars needing lot of work . though some such as rare E-type,ferraris etc will have silly money prices. goo luck though.

its currently pretty much a bare shell barring glass , headlining and rear subframe. engine was toast when it came off the road so a prime candidate for something hotter in a tax exempt shell (once the lesser spotted Cornish tin worms have been evicted)...it is a full on rebuild project not an oily rag wipe over! I will try and fight my way in and get some pictures.

well its out in the daylight for the first time since 1987! not beyond saving but being totally realistic not something that I can take on in the foreseeable future (most to juniors annoyance!!) '71 car , v5 in my name....offers?? I've seen much more rotten examples as restoration projects, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it might be. In your place I'd put it on ebay as a 10 day auction and a 99p start, (with a reserve of £500 perhaps). I think this will bring you the best price. |

an option but I really wanted to avoid ebay to##ers , you know the ones , "can you ship to mongolia" , "is it mot'd" , "does it come with a new air freshener" , that kind of carp!!!! that's why I thought I would offer it to the good people of retro-land first.
