After years of searching, I finally found one of my dream cars. It may not be a desirable car, but to me It was one I had to have as it was nearly identical to what my grand father had from new as a company car. After buying sight unseen and a worrying first drive with it burning oil quite heavily it drove the 3 hours home happily with the smoking stopping after a run down the motorway. I'm guessing the smoking was because it had only done 15 miles between last mots, and the petrol in the tank being fairly old. It runs perfectly now, I keep thinking its stalled at the lights as you just can't hear it lol Anyways I'll let the pictures talk, It needs a damn good clean and tcut, a lot of the panels have silly little knocks in them, but nothing terrible. I have never felt so attached to a car in my life ( this will be number 40 in 18 years of driving)

Love that. So rare these days, when there used to be literally millions on the roads. Scary to think where they all went.
I recently bought a 1983 Datsun Stanza, a car I have been looking for for 25+ years since I sold it's twin back in 1990. It's ugly and unloved to most, but when there's a story behind it, just like with your Cavalier, it's heartwarming to finally own it.
Looking forward to following your progress with this one, even if it is keeping it minty standard (that's what I would do anyway).
Good luck with it.

Nice one. Can't beat a nice brown 80's saloon. A mate of mine had a navy one as his first car and it was a great machine. I had a Mk3 years and it was a great car.Always keep an eye out for a nice one as a possible purchase. Good luck with it and keep the updates coming.

Thank you for all the nice words. I keep toying with different ideas, make a sleeper, drop it to the floor etc. But I keep coming back to keep it OEM. The suspension needs looking at as all the dampers are soft, so maybe a subtle drop. The steels are also in need if a freshen up but the 13s are growing on me so maybe just a refurb.

Ive had a few MK2 Cavaliers in my time, the best of all the Cavalier models IMHO. As has been said, keep it standard or , at least, make it perfectly easy to return to standard. You have a lovely car there, it will turn heads as it is!

So it's that time of year when someone pokes my pride and joy with their finger ( or worse) Douglas got advisories last year on poor damping all round and various front bushes. Anyone have any recommendations on good companies/brands to use. I would like to keep as near to oem as possible but could be interested in a subtle drop ~30mm.
The top end could do with a rebuild, think the valve seals have gone brittle from lack of use. So research is underway as to suitable replacement parts.

i'd stick with stock springs but overhaul the rest. OEM bushes can still be had if you know the part numbers, brands like febi bilstein / monroe / meyle are good. -30 looks great but youll get bored with it real soon. for shocks bilstein B4 are great OEM quality but still an upgrade
