I decided to pop over to Thruxton today for the first time to check out the Special Saloons and the rest of the CSCC line up. The weather was very kind and the cars were brilliant, lovely friendly paddock, great range of cars from the crazy special saloons through to the sixties saloons and the modern classics race series. Here are a load of photos from the morning, I know Speedman has more NSU TT by Retro Rides, on Flickr Check out the dish on these rear wheels TVR Race Car by Retro Rides, on Flickr Steven Moss - Ford Anglia Special Saloon by Retro Rides, on Flickr This thing was crazy fast with its Wildcat V8 IMG_6516 by Retro Rides, on Flickr As was this running a Cosworth lump IMG_6514 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Angry GTV wasn't running right in the first race, I hope he got it sorted for the second IMG_6513 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Former RR Gathering guest car Honda Prelude was present and correct IMG_6507 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Oh yeah and this was running too IMG_6506 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Gotta get these type of shots in the paddock, it is the law IMG_6494 by Retro Rides, on Flickr IMG_6493 by Retro Rides, on Flickr IMG_6392 by Retro Rides, on Flickr This had apparently had a bit of an altercation with another car the previous day. A bit of variety from the paddock This was lovely, and I had a nice long chat to one of the guys that was helping out with it, one of the nice things with race meetings is meeting interesting and like minded folk IMG_6489 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Beefy American IMG_6484 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Lightweight pair IMG_6483 by Retro Rides, on Flickr At some point this was consider a Honda CRX IMG_6478 by Retro Rides, on Flickr A Diva GT apparently IMG_6475 by Retro Rides, on Flickr IMG_6466 by Retro Rides, on Flickr IMG_6464 by Retro Rides, on Flickr IMG_6462 by Retro Rides, on Flickr The Jaguar series that was running was apparently populated with at least one car that had been sent for scrap, and actually could work out as a fairly cost effective racing series by all accounts ... tempting... IMG_6447 by Retro Rides, on Flickr IMG_6446 by Retro Rides, on Flickr IMG_6439 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Car matching transporter... so pimp IMG_6429 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Then this, just plonked in the paddock between a couple of trailers IMG_6414 by Retro Rides, on Flickr IMG_6410 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Lovely lovely NSU IMG_6390 by Retro Rides, on Flickr 914-6 IMG_6387 by Retro Rides, on Flickr First car I saw in the paddock, nice start IMG_6384 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Although I would have had just about anything there, this would have been my choice of car to drive home IMG_6398 by Retro Rides, on Flickr Check out the website for up coming rounds : www.classicsportscarclub.co.uk ... You won't be disappointed. Loads more pictures in here : www.flickr.com/photos/retroscenemag/albums/72157679696081244 enjoy... share any you like and all that, I've got the program so I may even be able to add some details

I was one of the PA commentators at this meeting (you might have spotted me wandering around the paddock - I was the one with the big black clipboard!) and loved every second of it - the CSCC is undoubtedly the friendliest organising club in UK motorsport, everyone competes purely for enjoyment and there is a wonderful atmosphere at all their meetings. The RX7 unfortunately had an altercation with the #5 RSR Escort on Saturday and wasn't repaired for Sunday's races. If anyone wants more details on any of the cars I am happy to try and answer queries.

Nice pics. talking of friendly paddocks, I was at Donington for the historics a few years back and a Cobra had shed a Halibrand in it's morning race. Wandering around, the conversation went something like, "That's a shame, no race this afternoon then? You were going so well this morning." "What?, Oh that. I've got a friend flying a replacement in his helicopter later, we should be out again." His friend obviously did and the Cobra raced again.

I was one of the PA commentators at this meeting I was enjoying the commentary when I was watching the racing. As per usual I didn't have the luxury of a relaxing days motorsport as I had to do some Gathering things and then get home to do some house things, before doing some other RR things... such is life. It was very enjoyable though and I think I'll make my way back to Thruxton at some point, viewing was good for an ex-airfield circuit. I wish we could get more people to attend motorsports events in the UK though, this meeting should have been as populous as our show given the quality and nature of cars on track. I'm giving some thought as to how I can help achieve that.

Agreed it was a fantastic meeting, such a variety of cars as well. Here's some of my pics from the weekend... Start with a couple of this lovely 355 Magnificent sevens had a good variety of models taking part, here's one of them... This Anglia shed a few more grams losing the door skin in qualifying... This Honda had a good weekend picking up three third places... Beautiful 911... And 993... Lotus cortinas always punch above their weight in performance... Great livery on this Capri This 944 went very well... One of many BMWs taking part over the two days... American brute force, sounded pretty good... A British classic... More American muscle... Lovely Mk2 cortina... Not so nimble in the tight bits... E-type under braking, such a stunning shape... A fantastic Ginetta G12... Fantastic weather was a bonus... Cosworth escort a bit wounded after Saturdays altercation... More blue skies... Finishing off with an XJR... Hope you like some of the pics

I wish we could get more people to attend motorsports events in the UK though, this meeting should have been as populous as our show given the quality and nature of cars on track. I'm giving some thought as to how I can help achieve that. The problem is most of these events are done to a budget. There isn't the money there to fund advertising and perhaps the people involved aren't all that social media savvy. I go to a lot of club level racing events mostly up at silverstone. Great value for money, entry is normally around a tenner for the day. The racing is more exciting (from a photographer point of view) as the drivers are less practiced and make more mistakes than the pro drivers. From a selfish perspective I like it being less busy than say silverstone classic or a round of the BTCC. You can pretty much wonder around anywhere you like and most people are always friendly and up for a chat. It's funny, silverstone classic is a huge event, but actually it isn't all that different to attending a 750 motor club event or any other for that matter where you have a mixture of car types racing, ranging from historics up to modern day cars. Silverstone classic just has a bit more infrastructure in place and a whole lot more advertising.
